  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey all,

In John 3 Jesus tells Nicodemus that he must be born again. Nic had no idea what Jesus was talking about. Jesus responded, you are a teacher of Israel and you don't know this???

Clearly Nic should have known about being born again, but where in the old testament is that taught?

Any ideas? (by that I mean any OT scriptures that teach a new birth?)

thanks for any help

Everything in the OT points to this. A new birth is an exchange of garments, trading of thoughts, a reasoning together, it is a little child that leads them. To be born again is to have no thoughts of what is good and evil. It is the knowledge of this tree that drives us from who we are even now; but there must be a descending or a casting down before you can ascend, just like it is through death or the losing of our soul where we begin to understand these truths.

You find the parting of the garments or the truth cast down in the river that flows out of the garden.

Dear 25R,

Peace be with you,

The following is a great pointer to Holy Baptism and the new life that comes through it:

"And I will pour upon you clean water, and you shall be cleansed from all your filthiness, and I will cleanse you from all your idols.
And I will give you a new heart, and put a new spirit within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and will give you a heart of flesh.
And I will put my spirit in the midst of you: and I will cause you to walk in my commandments, and to keep my judgments, and do them.
And you shall dwell in the land which I gave to your fathers, and you shall be my people, and I will be your God.
And I will save you from all your uncleannesses: ..." (Ezechiel 36:25-29, DRB)

Praised be Jesus Christ.

"Israel is my son, even my firstborn”

"fear not to go down into Egypt; for I will there make of you (Jacob/ "Israel") a great nation"

"When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt."

The Exodus was like a new birth.

Actually, I think baptism is taught in the new testament. Jesus entered mortality, and he came to show us how to return to the Father. Baptism is an ordinance we must experience to be in the presence of our Father. Jesus was a grown man when he searched for the "one" to baptise himself. ( John the Baptist) Interesting that although Jesus is the creator of the earth, the savior, he had to find someone with the power to actually baptise in order to fulfill this obligation.
