  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

New Bibles....(VENT)

Today Austin and I got the new Bibles we ordered. www.swordbible.org

It's a great Bible with all the bells and whistles
whistle.gif
, but I'm very disappointed with parts of it.

I e-mailed a man at Sword Bible and specifically asked him if there were any personal/denominational interpretations in it. He assured me there are none and that in the back of it I would just find subjects listed and then all the supporting scripture on that subject.

I flipped to the back and WHAMOLA, there in my new Bible it tells me how there will be a 7 year tribulation but God's people won't be here for it!!!!

Sheesh...is it POSSIBLE in this world to buy a Bible that hasn't somehow been twisted to fit a denominational belief???????

End of vent.

God bless,
~Lainie

This is the bible i use VERY excellent bible. It is awesome!

Wow, Jon, it LQQKS awesome. Wherever did you find it? I don't think I've ever seen it before.

I love the bible Lainie got me...I'm very well satisfied with it. I almost said, "I'd hate for her to see it, the binding is cracked etc.", but then I realize that this what she would WANT to see.

Oh Btw asked if some Adventists could work their store on Sunday. Is this not Hypocrites or what. It is ok for others to work on our Ordained Sunday. LOL I say as long as people come to believe than it's all good.

O___O

Wow. Thats a lot of bells and whistles eh?

Dunno. I just realised how pointless it... well, seems O___O I dunno... just... so much, well... stuff.. leather casing, etc. But who am I to talk, I own a bible with a few bells and whistles, the teen edition (heh) but it has some very good answers to questions. Except for when they tell me that you arn't supposed to understand revelation -.- or that there is a hell -.- or to "keep one day of the week aside" -.- but beside that, its all good ^.^

But you're right. Even that has mistakes in it. But hey, you could always buy a adventist one :) I've seen so neat as EGW ones! Well, bibles with stuff written about EGW included ^-^ Expensive though >.O

I only use electronic bibles now.... I have e-sword on my laptop. There are about 13 translations 6 bible commentaries and 4 dictionaries that I have access to with it. I carry my pocket PC and have 4 translations and 2 commentaries with it.... its so much easier... then again, I am a gadget person... so it works for me....

Yeah, I was gonna get me a bible for my Gameboy (now DS XP) But I find it hard to read books on the computer aye :| dunno what it is. I have trouble concentrating on lots of writing on screens. Yet, in book form, its totally fine.

That said, I'm a gadget person too ^_^ but stuff in NZ is waaaaaay too expensive -.-

Honestly we didn't want the leather casing. We did, however, want God's words in red in the Old Testament, and this was the ONLY Bible we could find that had that feature. Unfortunately in order to get THAT feature we had to get a leather cover (ughhhh). I posted in another thread that I'm not a big leather person and that I had written them to see if I could get it in hardback. No luck.

I like having a hard back so when you spread it out on your lap you have a little "desk" for notes, etc.

I guess it's already Sabbath where you are Windmill! Happy Sabbath sister!

Yes, we have the EGW study Bible - and it is great! We also have a Scofield study Bible (that my non-denominational Dad bought me when I first became Christian) but after reading the very first Scofield notes about Genesis 1 I haven't been able to look at it again - which is a shame since it is a beautiful Bible - but the notes are all wrong and twisted; they support the dispensationalist view, a view I just don't see supported anywhere in the scriptures. Like Stormy, I use a few electronic Bibles, such as Sword Project, that has multiple Bible versions, lexicons, and many commentaries included - and it's free! (my favorite) I also use some online Bibles such as Bible On the Web, this online Parallel Bible, but one of my favorites is the Blue Letter Bible because it has a built-in lexicon and commentaries (along with other bells and whistles).

Well, the comments in the back are not part of the Bible. Those who wrote the comments had to do so within their own beliefs.

Upon studying the outline of this Bible a little further I see they call the Lord's Day the Sabbath day (woohooo), but they have a full page on how December 25th is Christ's birthday. Sheeshhhhhhhh.
But, what day do they refer to when the say the Sabbath Day?

Speaking of which, my iPac went dead and has not worked properly since I resurrected it. Now the battery drained out while it was connected to the power source so I don't have my trusted e-sword. Bummer. It may cost me $300 to get the thing repaired.
