    Hi,
As a new believer I am trying to make sure what I do is right. I have a love for books. I read everything I can get my hands on...
    Anyway....
Now that I'm a Christian, are there boojks I should avoid? Is it ok to read romances?, mistories?.. Steven king novels?

We teamed up with Faith Counseling. Can they help you today?

    Ashlynne,
I think that the fact that you ask the question means that you know the answer. As a Christian you have now received the life of God into your spirit. Pay attention to your conscience, and above all enjoy the Lord.

What shall I give unto the Lord for all He has done for me? I'll take the cup of salvation and call upon the name of the Lord. Psalm 116:13

    Peace be multiplied

    Ashlynne,
I agree with the above post, the Holy Spirit will speak to your conscience. Listen to His still small voice. Your main goal right now should be completly on Jesus and readingthe Bible. Start with John, then Romans, then James. Take notes on what stands out to you. Write down any questions that you may have and take them to your pastor.
When you have grown in the word and spiritual disernment(knowing if something is from God or if it is from the world) then consider reading what the world puts out. But always know that these books are written by fallen people who might not know who Jesus is.
Seriously consider what you put into your heart. Check this out:
    Rom 12:2
2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
    NAS

Chapter 12 of the book of Romans is one of my favorite chapters in the Bible.

    God bless

    Pastor EJO

By all means read Christian novelists: Dorothy Sayers, JRR Tolkien, CS Lewis, and so many more... and also books about Christianity.

But put God's Word at the top of your reading list!

i like what my bible college teacher says,
"the answer to a thousand questions is... 'be led'.."

though you need to realise that you are fresh out of the world, just born again, and like a new born baby is able to lay in the hands of its parents, thats kinda how you are right now. im not trying insult you but, your small, your weak, your ignorant and there is alot of growing that you need to begin to do.

you need to take a season to not try to minister to others very much, but focus on receiving as much ministry as you can, you have alot to learn.
the devil loves to come and steal away the new life, becuase new born christians dont know how to do much for themselves yet. and they are rather helpless.
becuase you dont know the word yet, you dont know how to pray yet, you dont know how to understand and deal with diffrent issues that only apply to christian.

spend as much time in the bible, in prayer and in Godly books as you can, and please...find a man or woman of God in your life that is greater than yourself, and commit maybe a year or two to that person, spend as much time with them as you can, so you can receive from them.
maybe its a bible college teacher, or a sunday school teacher or a pastor.

your in a critical time, begin to grow and soak up all of God that you can, becuase like the bible portrays in revelations, the devils waits eagerly for oppurtunities to steal away the life of new born christians, if the devil can, he would be most eager to get you while your still young.

like a child cant feed or take care of itself, this is the season to let people minister to you, not to try and minister to others very much, you simply arent ready yet.

secular books may be innocent and nice, but dont waste alot of time with things that arent going to do anything for you.

i dont mean to insult your intelligence in anyway, i have great confidence in you, but you need to know where you are what your dealing with, you need to be ready, start preparing for whats ahead, becuase the devil wants you back.

When I first became a Christian, I had a strong desire NOT to read the stuff I read, watch or listen to what I did previously. I hardly watch TV anymore, although I have a few shows and movies I like and will watch. My secular novels are not important to me and my secular music sits in a huge box with no desire to ever listen to it again. If I do see some things on tv I now see it in such a different light.

It doesn't mean that you have to give up your reading or stick to just non-fiction. If you no longer have the desire to read secular novels, there are plenty of Christian novels in various genres. I like my sappy, silly romances as well as general fiction. There's also mysteries and such. Same goes with the music. What ever type of music you enjoy, you can usually find that type listed under"

    Hi Ashlynne,

You can be so excited since you love to read. The Bible is completely fascinating and so intertwined, meaning old and new that it becomes clear no man could have written this without God's inspiration. God has loaded His word with truths to reaveal to you-enjoy. I find myself smiling just thinking about you. I know I am still suprised at the things God teaches.

    Blessings to you sister !
