Dear members and site supporters,

Just letting all of you know that I've spent the past weekend recoding the moderating backend of the forum software. I've managed to program in new features into the moderation system of the CF (it's all my personal code :) ) to improve communication between staff and members, and automate the process to lighten the workload of the already overworked staff here.

Basically, if a moderator does the following:

1) Closes a thread
2) Opens a thread
3) Moves a thread
4) Deletes a thread
5) Warns a member

a private message is automatically sent to the member involved by the moderator who is performing the action which includes the reason for the action and is from the moderator who did the action so the member knows who did it. Other information including the name of the thread, name of thread, name of forum moved from and moved to, and a link to the thread, are all included as well. The member may reply to this PM to find out more information.

On top of this, the warning system has been streamlined and automated further, so that each time a member is warned, the PM sent includes the rule that is breached, as well as the reason, the total number of warnings, the reason for the warning, as well as the moderator doing the warning. A link to the post that the member is being warned for is also included. The member may check his or her User CP to review his own log of warnings (only viewable by himself or herself and staff).

Also, if a moderator does the additional actions:

6) Suspends a member
7) Bans a member

instead of a private message, an email is automatically sent to the member involved by the moderator who is performing the action which includes the reason for the action and includes the name of moderator who did the action so the member knows who did it. The member may reply to the email by using the link in the email to find out more information.

Obviously, if the member has an email address in their profile that is invalid, they won't receive this notification.

These PMs and emails from staff are AUTOMATED the moment they perform the above actions.

Therefore, members cannot say that staff do not communicate with them when they do certain actions - the staff have no choice now! :)

I hope this improves the quality of the moderation here.

There are other features in the pipeline, but due to a limitation in time, these are the ones that have been coded, tested and now made live.

No, because that bit is a bit hard to automate. :) That is still manual.
Yeah i can understand how that would be hard to automate, but I really like the idea of the automated moding! Great job I think alot of people will be very pleased of this ;)

What about appeals? Can we still make those as well? I'd like to be able to appeal any warning/suspension/banning given to me by a prejudiced moderator.

I believe that this makes the appeals process easier. You will have all relevant information about the action and will be able to respond to the moderator involved and/or their superiors.

Why, of course you may. That hasn't changed a bit. :)
