That's an extremely important warning from Jesus, especially because some think that anyone can be saved just by mumbling a 10 word prayer. The role of the evangelist is to call people to accept Jesus as their personal savior. The role of Jesus is to choose those who are worthy of salvation and an eternity of service to God.There are a number of Bible verses that warn that salvation is a very limited status that will be offered to a small number of people. After you read the verse below, think of all the people you know of who will be denied salvation.Think about political leaders,,the wealthy, the famous, and all those who have been duped into dedicating their lives to "fight for freedom",a totally non-Christian concept. Here it is:"WHOSOEVER WISHES TO BECOME A FRIEND OF THE WORLD,MAKES HIMSELF AN ENEMY OF GOD":help:

im sorry but i dont quite get the above post. i always (and still) believe that salvation is for everyone. anyone can accept christ and go into heaven. "behold i stand at the door and knock. if anyone hears my voice and opens the door, i will enter and dine with him, and he with me". if you ask, you will recive him.

im understanding from the above post that when we ask he comes into our lives, jesus gets a little memo that states and puts and accepted or denied stamp on are profile by judging if were worthy or not. well no of us are worthy. no one desevres it. remember the theif on the cross. he went to heaven garentided. he did nothing, no good works, no leading folks to christ, he just said he believe...

do you really mean that jesus decides wiether were just saying words or saying a meaning attached to it? cuz then i believe that. words mean nothing. i could say in a billionair. doesnt make me one. just like saying a pray that i believe doessnt mean i do. i believe jesus looks into our hearts

i have not a clue if that has anything to do with much but anyway....

I think there's a Biblical phrase about many being called, but few chosen....
i think ive heard that before. it sounds like everyone is called. salavtion is for everyone. but few ppl chose to act on it and accept it. kinda like on road is narrow and few travel it, and another one is wide and alot follow it...

Can anyone explain the concept of God calling some people to him? I think there's a Biblical phrase about many being called, but few chosen....don't know if this applies here.
God wants everybody to be saved. I believe God is calling all sinners to repent and be saved. But not all want to come to Him, not all believe in Him, not all want to accept the Lord as their Saviour.

According to Eph. 1:4, believers are chosen in Him:

"Acording as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love."

I think my confusion may lie here....on one hand, God seems to imply he doea want everyone saved. But the Eph. quote seems to imply God has already chosen who will be chosen, and He did this before we werre even born.

The issue here may be the word chosen....it seems to imply There's been some predetermination by God....if so I surely wish I'd known sooner, because I'd have been here faster!

1. God wants (desires) all men without exception by their own free will to be saved (cf. 1Tim. 2:4). However, in the case of some, His will can be and is effectually resisted through obstinate unbelief, because man has a free will and God will not force His will upon man. As a result, God's foreknowledge is understood to mean foresight; that is, God foresees who will believe and chooses them to be saved
i dont know if any of this is true. i was thinking, salvation is for everyone. anyone who accepts christ will enter the kingdom of heaven.some ppl just say words though. they dont mean them. i think thats what it means. its for everyone. anyone can accept it. but not everyone does. so god chooses who really means it in there heart, and who doesnt really doesnt. i believe god wants all to come to him. and anyone can. just bouncing ideas off the wall...

Ephesian 1:4 says IN Him - before the foundation of the world.

John 3:16 says that God sent His only begotten Son that those who believe IN Him have salvation and eternal life.

God is onmiscient ... I cannot believe that God was surprised at all when Adam and Eve fell in Eden. I do not believe that God was wondering what to do now. God's choice to redeem mankind is Jesus Christ.

John 1:1,2 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God, The same was in the beginning with God."

Jesus Christ is the Way - I believe He is God's chosen way to salvation.

The Old Testament contains prophesies regarding Jesus Christ's coming.

We are save IN Jesus Christ, but it is our choice. We can choose to believe in Him or not. God wants everybody to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, He wants everybody to accept His only begotten Son. But He does not force us, He is calling us.

I understand Ephesians in the way that God chose Jesus Christ as the way. I don't understand Ephesians in the way that God chose only some people to be saved.

The chosen people are the the two houses of Israel and all the wild branches that are grafted in to the root of the family tree of Abraham - who received the covenant promise from God:

Hebrews 8:6 But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises. 7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second. 8 For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:

The call goes out to all of mankind, however, and none are prevented from coming to God to receive the same promise He gave to Abraham. This is partly because the house of Judah rejected Messiah and crucified Him, hardening their hearts for a period of time - until the fulness of the Gemtiles comes in (Rom 11:25,26). This does not mean that He will not save a remnant from that house and also from the lost tribes of the house of Israel who, I think, we are, today, who call ourselves Christains. We do not know who our forfathers are that were absorbed into the Gentile nations to become loammi, meaning "not my people" which God called them for sining so bad against Him and sending them into captivity. BUT, He also said that they would become "Sons of the Living God" which is a very familiar New Testament Church term. Observe these verses and consider who Jesus said that He came to find and who Israel (the house of Israel) is. Also, Ephraim was the head of the ten tribes of the lost sheep of the house of Israel, and it was he that received the double portion blessing from Jacob when He (Israel) passed along in the covenant promise. See if you can see the connection of the "firstborn". This is interesting and critical to understanding who we are, but many never learn it or hear it. There is a lot of replacement theology in the So called Church, today.

Matthew 15:24 But He answered [Jesus] and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

John 10:16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.

Firstborn:

Jeremiah 31:9 They shall come with weeping, and with supplications will I lead them: I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters in a straight way, wherein they shall not stumble: for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my firstborn.

Colossians 1:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

Romans 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.

Hebrews 12:23 To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,

Prophesy to Ephraim:

Hosea 1:9 Then God said: "Call his name Lo-Ammi, For you are not My people, And I will not be your God.
10 "Yet the number of the children of Israel Shall be as the sand of the sea, Which cannot be measured or numbered. And it shall come to pass In the place where it was said to them, ‘You are not My people,’ There it shall be said to them, ‘You are sons of the living God.’

Romans 9:25 ¶ As He says also in Hosea: "I will call them My people, who were not My people, And her beloved, who was not beloved." 26 "And it shall come to pass in the place where it was said to them, ‘You are not My people,’ There they shall be called sons of the living God."

Jer 31:20 Is Ephraim my dear son? is he a pleasant child? for since I spake against him, I do earnestly remember him still: therefore my bowels are troubled for him; I will surely have mercy upon him, saith the LORD.
Father Abraham

Amos 9:9 "For surely I will command, And will sift the house of Israel among all nations, As grain is sifted in a sieve; Yet not the smallest grain shall fall to the ground.

So many are called, as the Bible says of Jesus that He will call all men unto Him if He is lifted up, but few are the chosen people of the two houses of Israel that split into these two houses right after King Soloman's reign as king. They were jealous over the king, as Jacob's promise to Judah was not that of the "firstborn", but that the sceptre of leadership (being king) would never pass from this house and it seed. Of course, we know that Jesus was from the house of Judah, being a Jew.
Paul trys to explain all this in Romans 9, 10, and 11, but many people miss it and do not go back to the Old Testament to learn about their heritage. All the Saints will live in Jerusalem one day and enter by one of the 12 gates, but know little of their heritage to this day. Maybe we should take a look and see why God instructed the children of Israel as He did.
God bless...

John 3:14 And as Moses lifted up the bronze snake on a pole in the wilderness, so I, the Son of Man, must be lifted up on a pole,
15 so that everyone who believes in me will have eternal life.

Joh 12:32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.

Ge 49:10 "The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes, And to him shall be the obedience of the peoples.
