I'm trying to establish a network between me and my roommates computers. Shes running Windows 2000 and I'm running Windows XP. Never set up a network before and have no idea how to do this. Anyone have any tips? thanks in advance.

CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Both computers need a NIC (Network Interface Card) and you need a Networkcable. Most of the time this must be a crossovercable. When you connect the computers with the cable a network is often established directly. If you want to share certain location, network folders, check the properties of a folder you want to share. If you want to secure the network you must check you firewallsoftware. If you want to share an internet connection, go to the properties of you internet connection. Creating a network is not really difficult. Making sure its safe takes some time.

right now we share the same interent connection via a router and when we open our itunes we can see each others music and even play it. However thats as far as it goes.
