Nestorianism is a belief that was started by a certain Nestorius in the early 5th century.
He believed that Mary could not bear God and that she only bore the humanity or the man of Christ. Consequently Christ, in Nestorius' view, was both God and Man, but was not united as such in one body. Meaning, there was, in his view, a body of the Man Christ walking around as well as a body of the God Christ walking around. He also believe that it was wrong to call Mary the Theotokos (God-bearer) because, remember, in his view Mary could only give birth to a mere Man Christ. Consequently he opposed to call her Theotokos and insisted upon Christokos (Christ-bearer) which did a number of things to the personhood of Christ.
A) it downplayed his divinity, His Son-of-God-ness
B) it downplayed his humanity
and
C) it dismissed the idea of the unity of God and Man in one flesh.
I ask here two things.
1) who here agrees with Nestorius? On what accounts and why?
2) is Nestorius' Nestorianism a heresy or not? On what accounts and why?
So please, take thine time here with a reply if you so wish. In the mean time, I shall be getting my foxhole ready
