  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

~nervous about leaving~

Hello!

I'm about to start college in about 3 days! (soph. yr.~1st away from home) I'm kinda nervous too, and therein lies the problem.;) Being 20 yrs. old, I guess it seems kinda silly, but after living at home so long, it just feels weird. I'm starting a new life that doesn't include my parents, the people I love most. (even though we argue some---wont miss that)

Anyone else go through this?

I was away from home last year, my first year of school. I had a hard time because I got involved with the wrong people, they had mental problems, and then I suddenly thought I did and ended up on medication.

Now I'm better than ever.

Try to keep busy though. I didn't have a lot of friends and went absolutely insane!

Your first time away from home is always interesting. However you get used to it.

There really is nothing to be scared about... as long as you have a cell phone :)

I was mainly scared about doing things on my own. Actually, I think I was so lazy that it got me nervous about doing my own laundry and feeding myself. Geez. Such a pain and takes too much energy. ;)

But you'll find your way. Nothing to be scared about, but its normal to be scared, guys and gals alike, of any age. Well, maybe after 30 you don't care leaving your parent's house.

Any way its change. You'll be fine.

My family and I are almost inseperable, and I had to live on campus since my freshman year, three years ago. It was kinda lonly the first few days, but after a while got used to it. Now I love going back over there. It's so nice to have someplace as "my own" where I can make my own decisions about everything. It's great to have the freedom.

I did go through this, about five years ago. I was leaving home to go to university in the capital city, which is only around 2 hours drive away, but it still a big deal. I left at 18 years old, immediately after high school.

When I first moved away I would visit my parents every holiday break that I had, but I eventually made so many friends that I didn't go back home to visit quite as often, and I settled into my hostel quite nicely.

God bless :)

I was nervous moving in to college. I was also really close to my parents. But, after moving in to college a week ago, I've gotten used to it, and, actually, now I like living independantly. Freedom to do whatever instead of being tied down to a schedule your parents may have for you.

Don't get me wrong, I still talk with my parents a lot, and we're still close. It's just an adjustment you make from living with parents to living with a roommate.

I'm really looking forward to it. It's my first time leaving home too - I go in just under two weeks - and I can't wait for the freedom! I used to love living at home and commuting to college but I'm well and truly ready to go out on my own, now. My family and I are really close - I'm dreading leaving my brother, we're such good friends - but they're supportive and I've promised to call often and go home every other week at least.

Be positive! Keep thinking of the reasons why you want to go, and how much you'll get to explore and grow.
