  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Has anyone noticed how secular philosophy is invading the Church? I see an alarming amount of people who claim to be Christians, while dismissing the Bible, and refering to philosophy for their morals and theological beliefs.
I just reminds me about NeoPlatonism during the early Church.
We were warned against doing this:
Colossians 2:8
Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ

Putting the "fun" back in "fundamentalism". That's great. :D

Yeah, who would have thought?

More than philosophy, I think there's been a problem in people clinging to the beliefs and lusts of the flesh, while professings and claiming to follow God and His word.

There's a problem with people not wanting to take a stand this way or that on a particular issue. Rather, the modern church wil try to ride down the middle and keep quiet so they don't offend anyone or hurt anyone's feelings. When it comes to controversial issues, they'll either give in or run away. Most churches have lost their luster. They'll neither claim to stand on the right side or the left of any issue, like Calvinism (most churches claim to be neither Calvinist nor Arminian) or issues of the future. You will never hear anything solid or definitive because they don't want to say something that might offend someone.

Oh that we would be hot or cold, but we are lukewarm, and He will spew us from His mouth. We try so hard to make sure that no one is ever uncomfortable, that churches no longer hold their members accountable for sin, they no longer excommunicate, and they'll never preach any issue that people might disagree with.

What did Jesus do? I love John 2. Great text. Thanks for letting me vent and ramble incoherently. TTYL Jesus loves you!
