Needing prayer

Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if I could get some prayer for me. This is the first time I've ever asked for it and really don't know what or how to do it. Today I am feeling very overwhelmed with life and just can't figure out how to focus on God. I am hearing the words but they are not registering. I keep getting distractioins and I know that its satan playing around with my head. How do I find that shield to put up? The only words that I heard this evening in church service was that we are to praise God. Only thing I can think of at the moment ,that doesn't seem to be much of a praise, is that I am recognizing my pain and trying to get help in getting uplifted. I hope that I can wake up in the morning and can sing more praises for the Lord. Depression sure can get a strangle hold on someones life. I'm sorry about rambling.

Father I pray that newbeliever wakes up refreshed and wanting and willing to live a great day for you god, let his mind be focused on you and only you and please father push away all impure thoughts and temptations until he can build up the strength to handle them.

Ah newbeliever its nice to hear from you,

You are on the right track. Sometimes when I am praying I can not concentrate on God, and everything crowds my thoughts and I don't know if he hears me at these times, but I bet he does. When this happens I do pray that I can focus on God better. But more importantly I remind myself to try again later. Constant prayer and thought towards God. Its not a chore to me or anything, and I do a lot better when I think to God more often. Eventually I find a silent time without distraction and God and I go through things together. I believe that because of this I grow stronger in faith nearly every day.

Please remember there are always things to be thankful for. There are so many reasons why me and you are lucky, our problems are really nothing compared to others. We almost have no right to be sad when people with deseases, amputations, handicaps can manage to be happy, we should not shirk the gifts we have. I don't know why your depressed or whats going on, and I do not mean to belittle whatever you are feeling, I feel for you my friend, but remember even though you may be sad there are many things to thank God for.

It is important to be thankful. God gives us so much and we are thankful for so little. Imagine if your own father gave you a present every week, but you never thanked him and indeed were never thankful for what he gave you. He would eventually stop and I believe so does God, but if we are thankful for the things that we have even though at times they may not see like much. God sees this and he gives us more because he knows we will appreciate what he gives. Before you can expect to recieve more blessings, you must be thankful for the ones you have.

I will pray for you my friend that your depression subsides and you are able to focus on God and his will and your own as well. I pray that you will be granted the faith to know God and that this gives you strength and courage.

I have the same struggle sometimes, and reading God's word, somewhere away from noise & traffic & radio/tv if you have to, brings Him closer. Trust in Him and call on His strength during times of doubt!

Hi Newbeliever,

This is one of those times when your faith can become strengthened. It is a tough time - and I've been going through these spells lately too. You aren't having any sensations of God's love, nothing is sinking in, you can't focus on God. It is a normal part of a believer's life and it doesn't make you a bad Christian or anything like that. It is one of those times when you have to hold onto what it says in the Bible even when it does not seem true.

You said here that you feel overwhelmed with life - say that to God too. Sometimes, when everything is overwhleming it can be really hard to pray. Sometimes writing it down helps - telling God exactly how it is - you are in pain and you feel overwhelmed - say this to God. Ask Him for what You would like Him to do. For example, I sometimes ask Him to send me someone to talk to me, or have someone send me a private message here. I sometimes ask Him if He will lift the depression so that I can think clearly. I usually say sorry for not completely trusting Him and ask Him to help me learn how to trust. Once You have talked to Him, even if it feels fake and it doesn't really feel as though you have prayed, you have placed everything in His hands, and you then take on the assumption that God will answer your prayer in some way. I find this the really hard part. It takes practice for me - so God is giving me lots of these dry-spells. It helps to develop our faith and make us grow. I know how horribly painful it is, and I'm not meaning to make it sound easy. It is just worth knowing that it is a process though, and it takes time, is normal, and is part of your walk with God.

keep reading your Bible, even if you don't feel like it. If you can just manage a verse, read a verse. I have found that it does not always sink in at the time, but that, at some point in the future it will spontaneously pop into my head when a problem comes along.

Keep on pressing on and seeking God. He is with You.

Please don't make her wait too long before she knows again the complete security of Your presence. help her to know that You are still with her and help her to know Father when it is you speaking. Thank you all for your time in saying a prayer for me. It touches my heart to see that God uses his disciples to uplift someone like me. God is good all of the time...ALL the time..... God is good!!! I have wrote on my chalk board the things I am thankful to God for. I did this so that I can have a visual and be reminded everytime I pass this board of what God means to me. I don't want to loose sight of that. Thank you all again so much for your kindness!

Funny you mention music. That is one of the things God helped me with today. In the mail I received from one of my mothers friends 4 CD's of christian/worship music. I've been listening to that all day

If you think that it is satan who is discouraging you, then I suggest you read Ephesians 6:10-23. It's really helpful if you read it in the morning before the day starts and ask God in prayer for the "Armor of God".
Dear Jesus,
please strengthen newbeliever as a christian. Let her know what it is like to feel the joy of worshiping you Lord. Thank you for bringing her to this site. In Jesus's name, Amen.
