I am 19 years old, i went to church every sunday and wednesday for most of my life and was very involved with the church, that all faded around my freshman year of highschool. My dad died in 2002 driving drunk about a mile from our house, he was never a really hard drinker, just the occasional beer but was having some hard times at this time. Since then I have been doing nothing but partying, not just having the occasional drink, but more like drinking to be happy, and drinking to get drunk. I am a sophomore in college now and feel like I need to turn my life around. All of my friends just want to party at all times and I find myself doing the same thing night after night. I was arrested in March for DUI and thats when it really hit me that I need to change something because I could have killed someone that night and all the other many nights that i'd drank and drove home and definately could have ruined my future.

I came to school this semster saying to myself that I would change something, but of course I am in a Suite with all of my partying buddies so I havent done anything to change. I think God is trying to tell me something because my friend Tom that I was supposta room with this semester was suddenly kicked out of school for bad grades and the roommate that showed up on move in day is a very devoted christian and seems much happier than me. On the outside i put on a smile and act like im loving life, but its not the case. I dont know how to stop and concentrate on the important things, like making good grades and stoping my drinking habits. It seems like everything day to day is telling me to do something about it, everything on tv is about kids partying to much and the consequences it brings, i just feel like these are all signs that I need to do something.

Does anyone agree, or have been in my place before and been able to turn around for the better?

JASN2004!

Sounds like you are turning your life around already! In a way, that be JESUS who is rooming with you! TY LORD! A clear sign you have a Divine Call on your life and that you certainly being brought out of the worldly party scene into the kingdom of marvellous light! Do ask your Godsent roomie to pray with you...surrender your heart to JESUS, pray, and read your Bible, attend studies...fellowship with Christians...get built up in your spirit! You are surely on the road to victory and o so wise for someone your age! You will bring much glory to your LORD and have much hope for your future! :D Here's some spiritual food to get you started...

Romans 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

2 Corinthians 5:14-21 For Christ's love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And He died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for Him who died for them and was raised again...Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! All this is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.

Galatians 5:16-25 So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law. The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

Galatians 6:7-8 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.

Ephesians 5:15-20 Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is. Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Philippians 4:13 I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.
Titus 2:11-15 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope?the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for Himself a people that are His very own, eager to do what is good. These, then, are the things you should teach. Encourage and rebuke with all authority. Do not let anyone despise you.

Jeremiah 29:11-14 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart. I will be found by you," declares the LORD...

John 10:10 Jesus exhorted...I have come that [you] may have life, and have it to the full.

John 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Yes, you need to repent and turn around. The best thing that will help you most would be to start reading the gospel on a regular basis. Meditate on Yahushua's (Jesus) words and commands and apply it to your life. Start praying daily too. He is the only one who can help you. Have faith.

Here is a question(s):

Why did you turn to drinking? Were you trying to escape something by drinking? If so then what are they? I know that you dad died. That must have been really hard on you. I am sorry this happen. But, is there something unresolved? Did you turn to drinking because you where escaping that problem? If you don't mind me asking, what where the problems he was dealing with before his death, and how did they relate to you and maybe your relationship to him? Is there joy in your life? What is this desire that you have to drink to be happy? Does state of mind while drunk empower you to do things you could not before do?

Yes, I've been in your place. Partying night after night when I lived in Mexico City. Living for the moment. Eventually the glamour wore off and even the best places and the great dates became boring. I think I was just maturing.

I wasn't able to change myself that much, tho. I got married, and the drinking and partying slowed down. But I was the same person. I wasn't able to change myself much, I was pretty shallow.

After 8 years of marriage, I studied Christian Evidences and became convinced the Bible was without error. I then trusted in Christ to be my sinbearer and to get me to Heaven one day, without relying on my good works or promises.

Since that time, God has changed me - fundamentally. I eventually began serving Him. As I seek to follow Him and cooperate with His will for me, I mature spiritually and emotionally. Profoundly. It's his work, not mine ("Let go and let God"). And the more time I spend with Christian friends, the more they rub off on me.

2 Cor 1:9
9 Indeed, in our hearts we felt the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead.
(NIV)

I'll pray for you, friend. If it worked for me, it'll work for anyone. And it is SO worth it.
Aloha in Jesus

No doubt JASN2004 God is speaking to you. As you already have had a relationship with him early on in life, then you know that God sends us messages, he taps us on the shoulder to make sure he gets our attention. By your partying friend leaving and a CHRISTIAN moving in couldn't be a more clearer sign.

Come back to him...he's waiting with open arms!! Cry unto the Lord while there's still time, and come unto him while he's yet near!

I have my friend. I was drinking very heavily and doing all drugs that you can think of except crack. Really into just having sex with women and living life on the edge. Driving drunk was a high in it self for me. I bet I could relate very well to you because all my friends were drunks and partiers. PM me if you ever need to talk.
