• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hello everyone,

I've got a problem and I know it. I love food. Haha...oh dear. I'm not overweight (130 @ 5' 4") but in the last year I've gained 15 pounds and it I keep eating the way I am I'm going to gain more and become overweight. I just can't seem to stop eating. I love food so much (like yesterday at lunch I ate a turkey sandwhich, 2 hard boiled eggs and then a PB &J all in one sitting). I've watched myself to see when I eat and it doesn't seem to be boredness or stress (I have little of that) so I can't seem to pin it down. I'm going to try and just snack all day long and not have big meals (I think that's how we're supposed to eat anyway) and see if that helps. I just went to the store and bought a bunch of healthy food so at least if I do eat too much it won't be all bad. I also have the worst will power when it comes to food. We usually always have food at work and it always ends up behind my desk because that's the only place there is room. And because it's there I eat it. My biggest issue is with sweets. I love DQ blizzards. I always have too many sweets. I just plain eat too much. :prayer: LORD help me!

Any suggestions???

I'm so embarrassed by this...:sigh:

The thing about sugars, are they take away much of your self control. Your body is put in a position where the blood sugar elevates and drops so quickly, you are left with no energy, and naturally try to boost that again with what worked before. It's not so much a conscious decision as a natural reaction.

You can help yourself by refusing sugars first thing in the morning--even skim milk. Watermelon and strawberries seem to keep my sugar level stable for breakfast, but bananas get me on a roll. I don't have any grains until later in the day, and stick to 1% milk in coffee for the first few hours. When I finally gave up my insistance on caffeine, that helped too. Artificial sweeteners, salt, msg, and caffeine give the same energy highs and lows that will lead you to eat more. (MSG mostly drives you because it irritates the stomach lining.) Someone wrote of these as beating on different organs...stimulants because they're toxic or hard to process.

These sound like normal diet tips, but think of it as making your job easier by avoiding the things that throw the system into a panic.
