• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hey folks, I'm working on my novel and I need some assistance. I don't mean to distract from real people's problems, but I need some people who know psychology. Mainly, if someone (a woman in her early 20s) went to therapy for moderate anxiety and depression issues... how would the therapist proceed? What kind of things would he say, what kind of questions would he ask? Would he recommend journaling, and if so, what kind of things should the client write about?

And then, let's say the root of the issues turns out to be an abusive spouse. How would the therapist proceed then?

It's not necessary to explain how you know, unless you want to. But any information would be a BIG help :)

I'm a freelance writer and my advice is that you need to do some research.

The first step is to grab an encyclopedia or search wikipedia and read up on therapy, psychology, and counseling.

Next step is to research a little deeper, and grab some psychology 101 books and skim through relevant sections.

Next step is to research a little deeper and grab a book in which a psychologist is doing a blow-by-blow on a patient for depression/anxiety.

It takes this amount of "research" in order for you to write in a way that feels "real" to the reader. Otherwise, it just comes off as wooden.

Lastly, here is the best site on the planet for aspiring writers
