  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hello, I have an 8 year old SD and two younger children with my husband. It's somewhat of a complicated situation, b/c my SD's mother does not care for her. She lived with her mother from the time of birth until age 5, which is when she moved in with my mother-in-law. My husband and I were not married at the time, but dating, and the child's mother would not allow her to live with her father, but would allow her to live with his mother and since they wanted her out of the house with the mother they agreed. The child has been living with my mother-in-law for 3 years now. After this school year is over she will be moving in with us!!! We now also have 2 younger children. I guess I'm writing this b/c I'm freaking out a little about her moving in with us full-time and I was wondering if there were others of you out there that could share similar circumstances or perhaps positive testimonies about step children coming into your lives and how you adapted. For the last few years my SD comes to stay at our house every other weekend. We get along well-she loves me-she calls me mom some times. I love her too, but I constantly struggle with feelings of jealousy and resentment towards her bio mom-whom she rarely sees. I guess I feel like it's hard for me to "go all the way" emotionally b/c I feel very overwhelmed as far as the responsibility goes. I mean I will be in charge of getting her in school, making sure she succeeds in school and life really as far as growing up and her mother will not be dealing with any of that. I know it's probably actually what's best for her at this point b/c she will be receiving a higher quality family life at our house. However, this doesn't help with my feelings. Can anyone relate? Any suggestions?
