  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

MY BROTHER,

Well, as i assume the half hour has passed and you have already done whatever, advice at this point is rather superfluous. However, what i hope you did was--WITHOUT GETTING ANGRY AND/OR OFFENDED--voice your opinion as a Bible-believing Christian. Sounds to me like this was an excellent opportunity to stand up for, to share, and to give witness to your Faith. Hope you took advantage of the opportunity!

A BOND SLAVE OF CHRIST,
ephraim

i think i did come off as very offended......it was hard not to get defensive..........at any rate as soon as i pointed out my objection to the passage i pretty much got told i was imagining things...and the instructor quickly changed the subject and didnt go near the paragraph i was talking about...probably because i seemed upset.......maybe i misinterpreted the passage.......but she didnt discount what i was saying totally....... i didnt get much further than objecting to the fact that in an essay about subversive fairy tales the author was trying to slam the bible............and then i was pretty much blown off..............feel like i blew it......i was ready to get on soapbox though....oh well the course isnt over yet!

fairy tales(lack of faith) vs faith... that is the debate/discussion you need to be addressing.

Understand this... unsaved people (like those who believe that God and His Word are just nice fantasies) just do not get it! And they won't... 'till they find Jesus.

That's just the way it is.
It's your job, as a Chistian, to STAND upon you principles.
You know, even if you don't know all the answers, stick with what you know to be true.
It doesn't matter what others think of you... only what God thinks of you.

Being brave and spirit-led and faith filled will lead you to greater victory in life. If others don't see and understand that, it is a sorry thing... but if you've addressed the issues with love and sincere motives, God is sure to reward you.

And don't worry about what you will say. If you exercise your faith and really study His Word, He will give you the words to say... in any/all situations.

His,
Rev J

ps: don't be too surprized when the world (including many teachers and intellectuals) wants to beat you up because of your faith... Jesus never said being one of His was gonna be easy... just worth it!

Your teacher probably realizes there's something not right about the thing. Maybe they're trying to head off a confrontation with the dean/principal over spreading religious opinion, I don't know.

It's also interesting as I read the thread yes, you do have to stand up for what you believe. In this case there may be way more at stake than you might think at first, too.

Often Christians come to the Bible stories with a (valid) view that they're teaching us much like fables and moral tales -- it's just that they're true. But after years and years of meditating on Scriptures I can tell you the Bible is way more than that. Taken in different facets, a true history can tell us plenty about true human nature, and huge things we'd never understand otherwise about God's nature and His character, His tenderness as well as His unbreakable will.

Teachers who press a storybook view onto the Bible have not read it for half its worth.

One of my favorite books explaining any of the Bible is in this little book. AND! (he says excitedly!) one of the best chapters is available online! PDF: Chapter from "Love Walked Among Us"

you can express your opinion while still being respectful. i go through this all the time with all my teachers just about. most of them seem to be atheists especially in the advanced classes. i just state my views and opinons and leave it at that. while still being respectful to my teachers. that's the last thing i wanna do. but if they hate God, they'll hate you too no matter what. especially if they really see Christ in you. so you may as well suffer with Him.

i remember being made fun of in Trig class for being the only one that thought sex belonged ONLY within the boundaries of marriage...

oh well, as long as i know i was not ashamed of God before man, and represented Christ in the earth. that's my only goal. our goal is to do what pleases God. He's pleased when we stand of for Him, but taking a stand does not mean that we become disrespectful to others. we still have to love them even though it totally hurts sometimes...

well if you did all you knew to do, then just leave it in God's hands. He knows you meant well. ask Him to order your steps from now on according to His Word and will. that'll help you to be led in all that you do and say from now on. but dont let the devil send you guilt and self-condemnation about something you cant change now. focus on what's ahead of you. and just ask God to help you in the future with that.

If you think it's tough hearing that kind of talk from a teacher, imagine being a young kid and hearing your father tell you the Bible is "nothing but stories."

THAT INDEED MUST BE A HARD ONE TO OVERCOME!

MAY YOU BE BLESSED TO DO SO!

IN CHRIST,
ephraim
