  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I need some prayer for my family. Our little superhero, my nephew, lost his battle with cancer early this morning. He was a young child still and even though I know in my heart he's with God now...and has received his ultimate healing...it still hurts. I have lost my own son years ago to SIDS...and I am not sure how or what to say to my nephew's mother to be the right kind of encouragement that she needs. How do you find the words? All I know is how I can relate as a mother losing her child, but I have no idea how to be the right support system for her. Please send your prayers up for my family. And if you have any words of wisdom, I'd really like to hear them...as I will be going over to be with my family later this evening.

I am so sorry for your loss.

Don't worry about what to say. Just be there. She knows of your loss and so she knows that you know what she is feeling in many ways. Be there to listen. Don't be afraid to say his name and remember stories, especially the funny ones. As much as you are mourning your loss, this is also an opportunity to celebrate his all too short life.

Shortly after my mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, I ran into a friend in the supermarket whose Mom had the same disease. She asked after nmy parents and I told her. Right in the middle of the baking aisle she threw her arms around me and cried. We ended up sort of nodding at each other as we wiped out eyes and went our sepreate ways - no words were spoken. That was the sweetest, and most meaningful thing anyone ever said to me about my Mom's condition.

Awww legacy, I truly hate that happened. I'll send up some prayers for all of you!

In all honesty, I've never been in that situation, but I believe that if you can just be there it would mean so much. Take a meal over to them. No parent is going to feel like cooking after that and stay and enjoy the meal with her if she's feeling up to the company.

Sometimes a quiet presence is all we need.
