  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Need some input!

Would you read this book?

  • Yes, I think it sounds interesting!

  • No, I believe it would be offensive.

Hello everyone!

The purpose of my post is a desire to find out if a book that I am writing would be acceptable in the Christian community. I don't consider myself a Christian, don't even know if Christ was a living, breathing person, but I believe that the concepts he teaches in the bible are sound and universal.
I have a lot of Christian friends, so I have no desire to offend, also knowing that Chrisitians hold the majority of our population here in he US, and I want to be a successful author ;), so I would appreciate your feedback about my ideas :).

Basically a mixture of a superior race and humans from the background of the story. The superior race is capable of healing, telepathy, and telekinetics, and I want to integrate this into history as an alternate, fictional explanation for spectacular events like Moses parting the Red Sea, Christ and the miracles he performed, with the idea that people of Jewish descent all share a genetic code in various combinations that occasionally line up in just the right way giving them some, or all of the above abilities. It's intended to paint the biblical individuals in a very respectable, admirable way, retaining their love for their people and desire for peace. Of course there is a villain and heroine in the story, the villain can be seen as representing Satan in his attempts to thwart the advancement of this other race (he is also of this descent but lacks many of its attributes. He has deep rooted issues involving jealousy and resentment, like most villains). But since he does have the gene involving longevity of life he is around for a very long time and plays a major role in atrocities over the ages. The heroine is born in modern day, and her parents each unknowingly had a perfect half of all of the genes required for the superior race. Combined, their daughter is born with all the abilities, and her mission is, of course, defeat the villain. So, if I preface this book with an explanation that the story is meant to be fictional, and in no way trying to disprove the validity of the bible, would this be acceptable in the Christian community? Or would it be offensive, regardless of it's fictional purpose?

Thanks go your input :). All of these ideas are © Natalie Alberts 2014.

I think it sounds interesting, as a story I would have no trouble reading it myself. However I would probably not like it to get universal acceptance, as it could give some people the wrong idea about eternal life, and God.

Evolution teaches that we as humans only live a single life. That there is no continuance of life. Continence of life is very important to my belief in God. I would suggest if you write the story that you give the superior race the ability to give humans eternal life.

Then there is the issue of the cross the cross is very important to Christians. It was said Jesus died for our sins, in place of us. In place of our failure he died, not having this would offend some. I suggest the race are offended by man actions, being of higher moral substance. Yet one being stands up and says I will be punished in their place, if they accept our laws, and submit to our moral way. They can have life. Something like that

You can pretty much expect at least some Christians somewhere getting upset over something--anything really.

But there's nothing offensive about fantasy fiction.

The only troubling thing I'd find is painting Jewish people as somehow other than the rest of mankind. But that's not coming from a Christian perspective so much as I'm a person who feels socially aware about the long history of ostracizing and various forms of violence against Jewish persons. It would depend on how you handle it, and that's also the sort of thing to get input from the Jewish community about.

I was going to write a book on the fall of Satan, and creation. I thought I would share with you my notes, so you can use them if you want. I have modified this to fit your story. This might sound corny but I am just getting your story to fit the bible as closely as possible.

· Adam and eve crash land on an uninhabited planet, after fleeing their home land, they face death and starvation – as you wrote

· In this galaxy is a being known to be highly benevolent, know as God. He sees that adam and eve will die with out his help. He creates a garden for Adam and eve, with food and animals. He comes to them and talks to them letting them know, he is the ruler of the galaxy. He likes people to have free choice, so he created a tree in the garden, and says that they can’t eat of that tree, but they can do anything else they want, he chooses something innocent so as not to harm people. In exchange for obedience to him he offers eternal life. But says if they eat of the tree they will die.

· Cut back to heaven, in heaven there is an angel, being, called Satan, he is the most beautiful of God’s creatures. He goes down to earth and sees Eve. She is more beautiful than him. He is jealous, and wants to kill eve. Yet in heaven is a law that if you harm another being you will be punished in eternal fire. Satan disregards the warning, having never seen anyone cast into hell, although it exists. He thinks long and hard, then tempts eve to eat of the fruit of the tree. Eve when tempted sins against God’s innocent command. They are cast out of the garden, as it is the trees of the garden that gives them eternal life, the trees heal their bodies modify, dna etc.

· Satan is found out to be guilty of sin of harming others. Yet God does not cast him into hell. God cast him down to earth, to learn from the suffering of eve that he must repent. Satan rather than becoming more merciful hardens his stance. He seeks to destroy all he can. Getting cain to kill abel. Gradually becoming more evil. Satan returns to heaven from time to time, and lies about what God has done to him. Blaming God for the impending death of adam and eve, saying he wanted them dead.

· Angels start to think God is evil, and start a war in heaven. God in mercy withholds his hand, even though harm is occurning. Some angels think God is weak, and start to take advantage of the situation. Under satans leadership they become evil, torturing God’s followers, and raging in their hearts against God.

· God after waiting for change, and calling them back to mercy, eventually says “There is only one way that I can solve this problem”, you know all of you that we must be punished if we allow evil, I will take this punishment for adam and eve, I will become a man like them and receive the punishment for their sins, against me, in the way that they should be punished, I will be, I will allow their sins to go unpunished. However if they reject this act of love I will have to punish them like I do those in heaven, if they know my love and reject it hating the good I do for them they will then have to be sent to hell.

· Some angels return to God seeing him spare adam and eve. Yet Satan and some really bad seeds, reject God offer of of clemency, and continue to do evil, raging against heaven. God then declares although I would have like hell empty, I can no allow wickedness, I will send satan and all his followers to hell. He tells satan I will leave you alive to watch my victory over death. He leaves them alive, for now. In an epic battle scene he drives satan and his angels from heaven down to earth.

· Thus starts the book of genesis. Feel free to use this content.

Wow Natalie, as a story, it sounds awesome. It has really inspired me to think of a story along those lines. I would love to see a movie made of it, so be careful what you reveal in public, it seems a valuable target for a pirate.

There would be all sorts of reactions to it, because there are all sorts of levels of acceptance in every person's culture. Christians are not the only ones you must consider when you create this story, you also need to consider the way it will impact the people who watch it, regardless of their preconceived opinions of God, Jesus, humanity, society or anything else it might relate to. As a Christian who has a belief in God and that Jesus represented Him in truth, I would encourage you to use this opportunity to inspire people's faith in Him, not necessarily belief because that is a commitment to an idea you are presenting, but what I would suggest is something along the lines of death being mankind's greatest enemy. You already have this perfect race which has telekinetic powers, it could have had itself together well enough to be able to sustain every cell in it's body and to have everlasting life.

Well, thanks for sharing your story today, I enjoyed thinking about that. I am quite keen to see what you come up with, I was the first to say yes in your poll. Don't suck up to mainstream Christians for their support, just do what is right. Preach the kingdom of God in Christ, even if you have to do it for free.

No one can lay any foundation other than the one we already have—Jesus Christ. Anyone who builds on that foundation may use a variety of materials - gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay, or straw. But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done. The fire will show if a person’s work has any value. If the work survives, that builder will receive a reward. But if the work is burned up, the builder will suffer great loss. The builder will be saved, but like someone barely escaping through a wall of flames.

You are the builder, whatever you build that is rubbish will be destroyed and whatever you build that is precious you will be rewarded for. Build them up, use whatever means you have that will create value.

I appreciate all of your responses and ideas! Thanks a lot! Future, interesting idea about them having the power to give eternal life. I will chew on that :). Viacrucis, I think your points play well into the plot, I plan to make it work out viewing the Jewish in a favorable, even superior light. But you're right it would be wise to get their opinion also :). Oi--thanks for the encouragement! Yeah, I know I have to be careful, maybe I need to go back and edit the OP, give just enough details to get the general idea. There is a lot more to the story I haven't said, but maybe I've given more detail than I should? And thanks for the vote!

Ok I went back and took out some of the details :)

There is an interesting verse in the bible it says:

Genesis 6:4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown

This verse is hard to understand. But it suggests that angelic beings had sexual relations with women, or some how influenced their bodies so they had children, and the offspring had special abilities, sort of like your story.

I have a story line to suggest. David killing Goiliath the giant could be seen as him ridding the world of one of these half breeds. Removing one of Satans children. Just an idea.

One more comment from a Christian perspective, the bible is very important to Christians. They see it as Gods word. If you could give the bible some special place in the book that would be good. Maybe it holds the key to unlocking the power with in the special ones, you mentioned.
