I have agreed to give one of the Lenten messages at our church.

Basically, what I want to speak on is this: The poor are always with us, suffering, something along those lines. What should we do?

I'm speaking along these lines because our youth group is doing the 30HR Famine the week before and I'm involved with that.

Can you guys help me flesh this out scriptural references or stories? I know I could find them on my own, but I thought maybe some of you would have some insightful things to share along with your references. Thanks so much!!!

Christsoldier,

This is a reply I Made to another question on these forums to a question about what it means to be a Christian. There is a non-beliver that had posted asking about if there were a God then how could he let bad things happen?

This is what I told her:
I believe that we should help anyone who needs our help and tell them that we are doing it in the name of Jesus. Yes I am glad that they are here, elsewise how could I do this?
Mark 9 : 41 (KJV)
41 For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.

I certainly don't want to lose my reward. And I am glad that even though i don't live in the time that Jesus walked this earth that I can still do something like that now and he accepts it as if I were doing it directly to him, Amen!
Also:

THE poor have the gospel preached to them! And they hear it and accept, do you know how many rich and well to do in earthly means hear it over and over again and never get it? They really are the poor ones. And THAT is so sad.

I hope this has helped you some.
