Well it's not really just the CofE or any one denomination. I said about the CofE because that's the denomination I was at the time. It's the use of sacraments in general that I've become uncertain of.

There's a PDF file of a book called Closer Communion on the UK Salvo website http://www1.salvationarmy.org.uk/uki/www_uki.nsf/vw-sublinks/8F7CBD47258836C780256F960050B768?openDocument

It was reading this book out of curiosity about the Salvation Army beliefs that has lead me to question whether holy communion and baptism are necessary sacraments as I thought they once were. Yes, it's a tradition but imo doing things because they've always been done rather than because they should be isn't the right way to go about things. And did Jesus actually intend to set up holy communion? That's a question few people seem to ask.

I am so glad you had a good time! I think you are right in your disquiet about sacraments- but dont throw the baby out with the bathwater! I find it extremely valuable and moving when I visit another denomination and find myself involved in communion. I guess I dont take it for granted like I used to when it happened ever week when I was an Anglican.

I have been SA my whole life, and every corps I have attended had an "order of service" I'll admit we dont always follow it but we do have one. As was mentioned corps can vary so much within the Army. But thats the beauty of it. We embrace all kinds of forms of worship. And once you hear a great brass band play what you thought was an old boring hymn you wont ever be the same.

Enjoy your time at the army.

ps-how do I get a red shield under my name, Do I have to post a miilion more times first, or can I just go somehwere on the site and load it up.
let me know,
pps-How many other canadian salvation army people are on here, and where do you come from?
