  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I need some music recommendations. I have very eclectic and unusual musical tastes and I'm having trouble finding Christian music that sounds anything like what I'm used to. Primarily I listen to instrumental music which is often classified under new age. I really enjoy artists like Yanni, Enya, Vangelis, etc. I also love many kinds of electronic music, but usually the softer somewhat more ambient forms. Artists in the category I like include Carbon Based Lifeforms (just watch the song photosynthesis on YouTube if you have never heard of them), Solar Fields (the song Sol for example). I also like some forms of classical and modern classical. So basically I like a very modern/contemporary sound, and yet at the same time a quieter and more peaceful sound. A couple of Christian artists I really like are Steve Green and Michael Card, but they have a more traditional sound. So basically if you could combine Yanni, Carbon Based Lifeforms and Steve Green, it might be something I would go for. I know this is probably a difficult request, but I really don't know what's out there.

Not at all my style preference, but after years of working in a Christian bookstore I've become fairly adept at fielding this sort of question.

Jim Brickman and his albums "Grace" or "Faith".
John Tesh--search "worship" or "hymns" in conjunction with his name.

That's what I've got off-hand. Others may have better suggestions...

Thanks for the suggestion. I pretty much know about every instrumental Christian album, and I'm now looking for vocal music. Basically I just want songs with semi-classical, symphonic, and/or electronic synthetic instrumentation. As far as the two electronic songs go that I previously mentioned, those are actually exceptions. They are great songs, but do not fully represent my tastes. I generally prefer things quieter while still sounding fresh and modern.

May be worth searching out Paul Wilbur. Check them on youtube or similar first - much of his music is quite loud but there are several pieces that are very calming and quiet despite using orchestral backing. I have no memory of the names of the particular songs though!
I also gave my mother a CD a couple of years ago with some different singers on it - I only remember one (Stuart Barbour) but I know I never listened to the CD as it was too quiet and slow for me!
