  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Are you a cop or screw ?

What is a screw?

I work in a group home for disabled adults. I am a habilitative trainer. I assist them with their behavior modification plans as well as assist them with various other needs. A few of my clients do get physically aggressive on a fairly regular basis.

I love my job...I wouldn't trade it for the world...this is just something that comes with the territory. I have never felt this bad after an incident before, though.

A prison guard.

Do they have procedures after you have been attacked ? i.e. Counseling and/or legal.

We are trained on what to do if a client becomes physically aggressive. There are various body positioning tactics...deflection...and as a last resort, restraining techniques. You want to use the least invasive technique possible...if you can, you want to diffuse the situation before it becomes an incident...distraction can sometimes work...or if possible just disengage.

I did not have to restrain my client...I was able to use body positioning and deflection... but he got a few really good pulls of my hair as well as a few good hits...though I was able to deflect them...my arms are a bit sore...and I think the hair pulling was worse than I thought. My head hurts bad and I am dizzy and nauseous. That is my main concern.

After an incident we do have procedures...we file an incident report...and an accident report if there are any injuries. I have never felt the need for counciling or anything or like that...

:prayer: :crossrc: :prayer: For your healing — physical and mental.

Speaking of which, was the guy who did it suffering from mental problems?

Thanks

My client is developementally disabled. He is at about a four-year-old level emotionally...though in many areas he functions at a higher level. He is nearly non-verbal, so communication is difficult. Basically when he gets upset he reacts like a four-year-old having a tantrum...but he is a grown man...so it can be dangerous.

Eeek! I've totally been there. I was direct care for 2 years, and then a supervisor for a year before I got married in a residential wing with 13 residents.

It surely has its moments!
We had one who would pull hair with this death grip right at the roots of your hair. It often took multiple people to get his grip out of your hair.... and the technique you learned for hair pulling removal (to push his hand inward to your head) didn't work!

Hope you feel better soon! I'd probably go to the chiropractor just for good measure.

. . .

You most definitely have my prayers. :crossrc: Your symptoms ["head hurts bad ... dizzy and nauseous."] sound as though you have may have sustained a (hopefully mild), concussion. I would defintely get in to see your doctor or the ER to get it checked ASAP. This is a form of TBI [traumatic brain injury] and should not to be treated lightly.

May God bless you and protect you in your job and always.
