I would like someones thought about this verse in the bible

Hebrews 6:4

For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, 5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, 6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

What this passage is saying is this. The writer has been steadily showing how Jesus was superior to all before Him, angels, what He had achieved, who He actually was. Thus, if a person turns away from Jesus the issue then is “Where else can that person go to get forgiveness of sins, a restored relationship with God and security about life after death?

By turning away that person repudiates all that Jesus has done.

It does NOT mean that if 'take a break' from active Christian comittment we are forever doomed. That intepretation would contradict the parable of the prodigal son.

There is a difference between completely turning away from God (the unforgivable sin) and back tracking, getting off on the wrong road, rebelling against God for a time... all forgivable sins.
Completely turning away from God would mean that you would not ask for forgiveness or repent for it and therefore not be forgiven.
