I, not long ago, accepted Christ as my personal savior..I was at a Christian camp type thing for the week. Before that, I used to go to church, then I didn't, and I had pretty much lost my belief and wasn't a very good person. After I accepted him I turned around and was much nicer, didn't swear at all, etc. I pray every night, I'm a good person, but whenever I think about God or Jesus, I just think, do I really believe? It's scaring me so much...I want to believe in him, I don't want to go to hell. I don't know what to do I can't get it off my mind...

Sorry, btw, if this is in the wrong forum..

Hi, Kbry! Welcome to the forum. :)

It sounds like you're doubting your faith. Like it's hard for you to feel solid in your belief in Jesus. You feel bad about this, because you aren't wanting to rebel against God or anything, and you don't want to lose your faith like you once did.

The thing is though, this is very common for people to do. We're here on earth, and Christ is in heaven. That's a big distance, and I think it gets bigger every day. Even if we want to believe, it's hard to because things seem so different outside of church as they do inside.

The thing is though, he knows this and he can help you overcome your unbelief. In Mark chapter 9, Jesus was talking to the father of a demon-possessed boy:

Jesus asked the boy's father, "How long has he been like this?"

"From childhood," he answered. "It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us."

" 'If you can'?" said Jesus. "Everything is possible for him who believes." Immediately the boy's father exclaimed, "I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!"

Jesus saw that people had problems with their belief and faith a long time ago. That doesn't make it all okay, but it *does* mean that he's on top of the situation. It's alright; he knows. Pray to him and tell him, "lord, I have problems believing in you sometimes, please help me overcome this." Just like the man did in Mark. Jesus was able to heal that man's son, because he was able to help the father overcome his unbelief. He can help you too.

Peace!

Kbry, what you're going through is completely natural for most new Christians. Trying to understand God absolutely is impossible! It's just physically impossible to know everything about God. I know that can be comforting in the sense that you're in the same about as every other Christian, but also disheartening in the sense that there's always going to be unknowns.

To be honest, it's very good that your questioning and doubting, it means that you're critically thinking about the situation and you're not going to mindlessly put your faith in something. A quote that has helped me is: "Doubt is not inherent to Christianity, it's inherent to being human." Point is, you're having doubts because you're human. If you turned your back on God and lived a life without him, you would experience doubt far severe to the doubt you're feeling now, especially the more you learn about God.

You're a new believer so my advice to you is to seek out discipleship from someone at your church to grow closer. It's incredibly hard to work through all of this on your own and having someone spiritually mature to guide you along the way is my best advice.

Also, keep seeking! Don't just try to ignore your doubt, but pray about it, talk to other Christians about it and read the Bible. Doubt can be a very good thing in growing closer to God because it forces you to deal with the feelings you're having.

God bless and feel free to respond/email/PM if you have any more specific questions.
