  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

First let me start by ging a bit of history.

I was born and raised in the Catholic faith. Quite active in my faith in my early adult years. I married another Catholic and we started out raising our kids Catholic. Both of our children have been baptized as Catholics. After 30 years in the Catholic church my wife and I left about 4 years ago. We have since both been baptized outside of the Catholic church.

OK. I am very frustrated with Protestant churches. There seems to be a ton of false teachings like OSAS, baptisms role, etc. In my bible studies I find absolutely no evidence of these teachings and when you study the ECF they do not speak of these teachings either. I can only conclude that they are mondern man-made make feel good teachings. There also seems to be a complete and utter lack of knowledge of Christian history. The constant interpretation differences between Protestant denominations is quite frustrating and I am beginning to feel lost.

Now with all this said there are reasons I left the Catholic church. First and foremost and I cannot resolve the authority of the Pope, not in Scripture and not within the first couple of hundred years of the church.

Can someone direct me to scripture and to some early writings on the Pope and his authority?

True indeed that there are many crazy teachings out there.

Base your beliefs on the God's word not on the words of men. Pray for enlightenment and direction to the straight and narrow way.

Mat 7:7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

Jhn 7:17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or [whether] I speak of myself.

Why is there such a wide range of beliefs?

2Ti 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

There are a lot of non-denoms out there also that hold quite steadfast to the Word of God. I, myself, believe that if the pastor/preacher says to his congregation to NOT believe him in what he says in his teachings and sermons but to take what he said and to study it for yourself in the Word to verify that what he is saying/teaching is true, that is a teacher who is not trying to teach a man's doctrine and is worth learning from. My home church's have always had a pastor who believed that. They do not take glory or knowledge for themselves, but for God only.

I, do not prefer non-denoms or denoms that hold to a bunch of man's doctrine or church politics even, for I feel these hinder a Christians growth.

Seek out and you can find a church home like this if you persevere and seek God's guidance.

As far as I know, the only one with athority was Jesus, then he gave some athority to Peter, thats where it stops.
