I think that's true to a degree, although maybe not as much as is commonly thought. But that doesn't even have to be the point. My main beef here is with the idea that you should shut out any ideas that don't agree with your own. The Christian is not supposed to listen to Tool, read Nietzsche, or watch American Beauty, because some people call them "evil," when in reality they might be quite beneficial if they'd pay attention to them rather than write them off when they see the parental advisory sticker, atheist label, or R-rating.
Do you believe in demons, or personified evil? If you do, you would want to stay away from things that might have demonic influence. If not, then I understand how you would not think it made a difference and is an overreaction. This is different that watching a certain movie which doesn't have Christian themes or might even have anti-Christian, secular humanist themes. "pro-demonic" is different. Qyot gave a great overview of what bands are actually satanic. Industrial/goth bands who feel forsaken, who question God, who are bitter at church - this is not what we are talking about. I believe the OP asked if any bands actually worship satan. Qyot, whose music knowledge in this area I really trust, said there is a minority of bands that do who are in the "black metal" area - somethign like that. Anyway, all I'm saying is that its not an overreaction to not listen to a band whose members worship the personification of evil. And its smart to want to know who to stay away from. This is a lot different than listening to Tool, watching American Beauty, or reading an insane German :)

Yeah, I don't believe in demons. I generally think that most descriptions of them are merely attempts at personifying evil, in order to make it easier to understand. So, that could be a major difference in our viewpoints.

Ah, OK. I probably jumped to conclusions, then. You gotta watch me, I'll get on the soapbox if I can find half a chance.

Hey, he became insane at the end of his life; he was unbelievably intelligent until then :) But yeah, I agree with you for the most part. Although, and don't quote me on this, I don't think Satanism as a religion worships the Christian evil angel or whatever. I think the religion's based on something different. But that's beside the point, probably; still an interesting tidbit of knowledge, though :)

I guess that depends on your definition of intelligence ;)
