  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Need help with Front Page

I need some help with Front Page '98. I'm having some trouble with a comments field. When I set it up, I do the validation fields to include white spaces, numbers, didgets, and all the marks and stuff on the keyboard.
In the "Help" section this is what it says about white spaces:

"Select this check box to allow the field to contain white space, including spaces, tabs, carriage returns, and line feeds."

One of the things I'm having trouble with is the carrage return. I think that's supposed to allow a new paragraph to be started. But when I put it up, it doesn't work. All the sentances run together, so it looks like a big block.

Anybody got any ideas what I should do to fix this?

If you can upgrade to Frontpage XP (2002) I'd suggest it, I have used previous versions and FP XP is really good (I haven't tried FP 2003 yet).....It seems the earlier versions of MS products are very limited, but so far all the XP versions of their software has been great and easier to use.....

Would if I could, but I can't. So, any other ideas?

this may be a limitation of the software. keep that in mind. you are using a primitive version of a pretty bad web page maker

I agree on the software being old and limited, I can't say as though it's a bad web page maker...some people like it and others don't......

Frontpage is decent depending on what you are using....I will be getting Office 2003 here pretty soon and so you know, I will be up to date, I don't use frontpage for my websites. I use Dreamweaver, its much better and a little more user friendly in my opinion.

The problem with that is I don't have the money for it. It's over $300!

Plus, the system I'm doing it on is a Windows '95 OS. Everything I'm finding won't work on that.

So, any other ideas? All I want is a plug in, or add on or something.

Well to tell you the truth...thats your problem....I think its time for you to seriously start thinking about upgrading your computer, and putting XP on it. Or getting a new computer period with XP and Office 2003 already on it like from Dell. I mean you won't get much with 95 SE.

..but try getting Dad to do that! The last three new computers we've had have all gotten viruses on them, and he's lost a lot of his work. He got this POJ to use just for online, and won't let me use the new one to go online with.

And yeah, we had Macafee AV on it, updated daily for new AV files. But the new viruses still get through. He tried a firewall, but that made it hard to use MSN IM, or any of the others. So I guess I'm stuck. :( :sigh:

Thanks anyhow, DNC.

I'll just be blunt about this, but Mcafee, just plain stinks......I personally use Norton Antivirus, but alot of people say that the free anti-viruses work better than Mcafee....I personally can't recommend a free antivirus because I won't use them because I will swear by Norton......for the past 10 years I have tried Mcafee off and on and the program just doesn't do the job.....I can open anything and not have to worry if it's infected or not because Norton catchs it and won't let it run if it's infected and if it can't repair the file it quarentines it......

Also, I'm not sure what firewall you are using, but I use Norton Internet Security and I don't have problems connecting to stuff....it asks you to either permit or block access when you try a new program and it has a program scan thing and scans for known programs that access the internet and configures them to work......

Norton Systemworks (includes Norton Antivirus) $10 w/free shipping
http://www.store.yahoo.com/glob2000/synosy20proo.html

Norton Internet Security $14 w/free shipping
http://www.store.yahoo.com/glob2000/noinse20.html

Both are with 1 year of free updates......

You gotta set you firewall and your AV by the instructions. The reason why they are getting through is because you are letting to many lenancies to come through. When I get the chance Maverick JR I will talk to your dad about it.
