  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was given a Microsolutions Backpack CD_rewriter. I downloaded the driver files from their site, and then down operating software, Speedy CD Creator.

I was able to burn a CD with some files from the hard drive. But when I tried to copy a back-up of a program CD, I got an error saying that there was a buffer underrun.

Two questions:

How can I correct this?

What is a buffer UNDERrun?

HELP! :help:

Now to answer your question since I had a brain fart and forgot to, lol..... A buffer Underrun error is just that the information wasn't going to the burner quick enough and with older and cheeper burners the burner burns at one speed constantly and can't slow down or pause so if the "buffer" runs empty it will cause an Underrun error.....newer burners have Buffer Underrun protection or use SmartBurn to burn cd's and what that is is where the burner adjusts the burn speed to compinsate for the buffer running low and if needed it pauses burning and then resumes.....

Depending on your burning software check to see if it has a place to checkmark for "Buffer Underrun Protection" if so checkmarking that will help or using "SmartBurn" will also help....

Causes of a Buffer Underrun error:
-cd-rom drive to slow or buffer to small
-hard drive in need of being defragmented (when copying cd's it still has to go through the hard drive)
-burning speed set to high
-copyrighted cd or cd extra cd that isn't recognized

Hope that Helps :)

I changed the speed of the write option from 4x to 2x and it worked fine.

The only problem I have now is that I can't copy music CD's, only data CDs, which is ok for what I need. I only wnated it to back up some of the files I have on the computer anyhow.

Thanks for the help, Doofus.

sounds like the buffer on your cd-rom drive isn't large enough to handle audio, I'd suggest trying another cd-rom, but why put in a cd rom when u can put in another cd-rw drive for the same price...I had this problem with my other system so I put in another burner and it solved the problem, sadly, the whole system was only 6 months old and all of it got fried shortly afterwards by a lightening strike :sigh: .......
