  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I'm writing a story that deals with Christianity. Some of the scenes in the story is not exactly sound docterine. However, The goal is to warn the believer and the unbeliver about spritual warfare and the end time. If the story is entertaining will you go out and buy the book or see the movie?

Honest opinions please.

Hmm...hard to say. It sounds a whole lot like...oh, what was that book the monster reads in Frankenstein by Mary Shelley..."Paradise Lost". That is, the whole thing of making a fiction out of a biblical story. Interesting and I might venture to reading such books one day, but the prospect of writing one such novel extends far beyond my zones of capacity and comfort.

I agree with asterick. If your goal is envangelizing, then be as accurate as humanly possible. If your goal is to entertain and provide your own interesting twist to the story, then don't worry about accuracy. I would add, though, that you should be cautious in what you write; either way, you are writing about a biblical story. Be sure that nothing you write could be interpretted as a point of disagreement against Christianity.

I have a good feeling the story you're working on can be entertaining/marketable ... Just look at the C.S. Lewis masterpiece The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe which actually deals with the ressurection ... and the Harry Potter series may not deal with specific Christian doctrine, but its classic good vs. evil.
I think if you keep doctrine in mind while you're outlining, plotting, you can defintiely slip it in there without the book sounding preachy & keeping it very appealing in the meantime :) JMHO!

I agree. I think it's good if it's entertaining, though, especially if you're aiming to evangelize. if people think it's a boring sermon of a book, you'll reach less people than if it's more interesting.
have you given your project up to God? if you want to evangelize, that's great, but it'll only work if He's behind it. if you're doubting whether or not a certain "inaccuracy" or "stretch of the imagination" is okay, ask Him.
in truth, i'd be interested to read this story of yours. i can't really comment without specifics, but it sounds rather promising.

I'm going to give it a try. Although, I just received bad news. Holly wood is going with a 3 part movie epic about the fall of Lucifer. My script and book delt with that subject.

After a few minutes I decided to still deal with it in book form and cancel it and re write the screenplay.

Thank you for your post.

sunstruck is right. Give it up to God and you can't help but evangelize. You've got to know what you're writing about, and you have to give yourself a little room to breathe, too: one of my problems is that I typically overcomplicate the story for myself, and after that, it's not fun anymore. I don't wanna write anymore. Now, aiming to evangelize and entertain is a treacherous balancing act, and that could definitely do it for you.

That's exactly the problem that Jerry Jenkins had in writing LEFT BEHIND. I highly recommend reading his thoughts on this subject in WRITING FOR THE SOUL. It is one of the best writing books I've ever read, and it sounds like you could really benefit from it, Gal.

I hope that helped a little.
