This is an honest question, so please don't take this the wrong way, but is this a real request for advice?

You shouldn't be friends with a 16 yr old if you are in a position of authority over her, she doesn't need another friend. Most likely the more you try to be her "friend" the more she'll pull away from you.

Agreed with PP. You're her step mother, not her friend. There's a difference between that. Just stick to parenting her with a good relationship, not trying to be her friend. She may try to use that to her advantage and your disadvantage. Same with her friends, don't try to make friends with them. You can like them and do stuff with them, but your friends need to be people of your age range and to share common interests with .... not 16 year old girls.

That's a slippery slope to try to be treading on.

me and my mum are best friends but when i was 16 we werent im 23 now and i tell my mum everything i think we became best friends when i moved out from her house and had my own kids.

be a mother to her and best friend is what comes once they are grown up...

i dot understand why u want to be best friends with her firiends tho... my mum knows my friends but she doesnt talk to them as if they were best friends... that bit is odd.
