Hey everyone. Lost the login info for my old account and dont use the email addy i had registered anymore so I'm back with a different name.

Anyhoo need advice. Let's say you're going to ask your lovely girlfriend to marry you. Let's say that your lovely girlfriend has made it clear from the beginning of your relationship that she hates the fact that our society makes it seem like men must buy jewelry for their women to be happy with them and also has stated that she will never wear diamonds because of the people who die in africa to get them and because she thinks that spending huge amounts of money on a shiny rock is an irresponsible waste of money.

What the heck do you do as far as engagement rings go for such a woman?

Who were you?

A plain band or fake jewels is fine.

I once saw a wedding ring that was just the letters of the name "JESUS" formed in a circle.

My engagement ring, which I picked out, had a ruby in the middle, a sapphire on either side, and two tiny (I mean miniscule) diamonds on either side of that. It was $110 on clearance. Could have gotten something just as pretty with fake jewels for even less.

OR.... If you're anywhere near Arkansas, take her to that diamond park where you get to keep what you find, and whatever you find, have it set on a plain band, so she knows that no one in Africa had to suffer to get the ring made. ;)

An antique, simple ring might be an option to avoid conflict diamonds. Another bonus is that there was more variety in gems for engagement rings in the past. A man-made gemstone ring is another option. They've gotten really good at replicating what nature does to make diamonds.

I don't wear my engagement ring either.

On the other hand, I also wear a wedding band.

So, I have a plain gold band on my right hand, and a gold band with a row of 12 small diamonds on my left hand.

This happened when I sprained my right ring finger and could not wear that ring on my left finger. My priest told me to wear the wedding ring on my left finger, so we got a new ring for me.

Then I went to church and a guy thought I was unmarried because there was no ring on my right finger.

As soon as my right finger had returned to its normal size, I slide on my old wedding band.

So, now I sport a wedding ring on both hands.

I told my husband when we were just dating that I personally find it a big waste of money if he were to buy me a big shiny rock. First of all, I hate wearing more than two pieces of jewelery, and second of all, a huge engagement ring is a waste of money, lols.

Therefore, my hubby got me a small white gold band with a tiny diamond in it... and that was perfectly fine with me! All that really mattered that the ring would stay intact and not turn into rust within the next few years, and that it would be blessed with Holy Water during the Bethrolment service.

Perhaps you can get her something small and doesn't cost an arm and a leg, and make sure the ring is good quality so it will last a lifetime.

I agree... with your girlfriend. I lost my diamond ring (my hubby throw it by accident down the garbage disposal ...sign). But that was agift from his uncle who was a Jeweler... The second time he bought me a ring... cubic zarconia... I only wear it rarely... I am not into jewerly as I lose stuff... I liked Khaleas idea of the triband ones... those are great :)...

God bless,

Do you have one of those?
I have one with the three different gold colors, not from that place and not as an engagement ring, but just as a regular ring that I wear a lot.
Doubles as a stress toy real well... :p
