Hi to all Caregivers. First, let me say that you deserve the greatest respect for all you do.
My mother in law is receiving Hospice care while living with her daughter, my husband's sis.
My husband and I go down every other weekend so that sis can get a break. We are going down tomorrow and staying 4 nights - 5 days so sis can take a much-needed vacation.
Here is where I need advice: I have some experience caring for my own mother for weeks at a time after spine surgeries, and since my husband has little experience with this level of care, he says he needs me to be there. I love helping and consider it an honor.
My problem is that my mother in law isn't very comfortable with me helping her. She often doesn't know who everyone is or where she is... delusions come and go; regardless, she seems to pull away from me.
Is there anything I can do that will help her feel comfortable/safe with me? I want so much for her to see me as a person on whom she can trust and depend.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
