My boyfriend and I are both Christians. He's black and I'm white and sometimes we clash over cultural issues. I was wondering if anyone had any advice.

CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I've dated a man that is of another race than I. We don't really clash. I guess the most important thing is to be respectful and understand where each other is coming from. Also show an intrest in each other's differences. Be intrested in his culture. And remember that you are both children of the King over anything else.

I got no problem with interracial marriages. But I will warn you, sometimes cultural differences can be a major issue. I would spend times together in many different circumstances, and see if you two mesh well. I also want to know the current differences.

seeing as how you are white and you are dating an african american there is going to be a bunch of social differences. my suggestion is always be comforting and loving. there are a lot of very delicate issues and misuderstanding of those issues can sometimes be the demise of a relationship. if this is a serious relationship i would be very open with him at all times. ask questions. you don't know what it is like being a minority and i think it would ease things if you made an effort to try to understand how he feels and the pressures that he deals with everyday. always make sure you guys are on the same page cause you don't want to be in the dark with how he feels and he doesn't want to be in the dark on how you feel. as long as you talk things out it should be ok. i too have been in an interracial relationship and i found that as long as we were honest and true to eachother that we had less problems with that aspect of our relationship. i hope this helps some

I gaurantee you someone is gonna come running in here spouting their views on how "interracial marriages" are sin. Just you wait. Heh. Anyways, yeah... I think there's nothing wrong with it as long as you both can get a long with each other in the end.

Sounds like you just have cultural differences, and you can have those even if you are the same race.
