  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Here's my dilema: I take online classes, and I just started a new one. The professor requires THREE TIMES as much work as my other classes, and she's made the statement that our reports will be considered plagiarism if so much as a double space is wrong in our references. I understand having homework; that's not my gripe. It's the AMOUNT. We have LARGE assignments due five days a week. I'm not sure if I should email the instructor and question her about the workload, or contact the college and talk to them about it. I can barely keep up with the class now, and I'm about to start a full-time job in two weeks! Help!

Does the prof. seem approachable or pretty stand offish? If it is the latter then you might make things harder on yourself. Is there any way that you can drop the course and register at a later time when you don't have your plate so full? Seems like a tough situation. I don't know what I would do if I were in your shoes. Wish you much luck with whatever decision you come to and I hope that someone else here will have a bit more to offer you.

God Bless,
Karla

Hmm...I don't mind strict, stuffy, and demanding professors cause all of mine are that way. But plagiarism due to a minor error in the reference has the anal retentive factor of ten. If this lady is serious, I'd consider another class rather than get crushed by it and then it be too late to get out.
I doesn't hurt to talk to her. If she's a wench, well, then push the almighty "Drop" button.

I would say you should probably drop the class, chance are the prof isn't going to change the class workload for you, but I don't think it'd be a bad idea to let her know that it is unreasonable, just don't expect her to say, alright, I'll change the whole class plan. Maybe you could take it online at another school...depends on the college, but some schools let you take courses at other colleges concurrently. I dislike anal retentive teachers very much. :(

Today at 10:57 AM Cammie said this in Post #1

and she's made the statement that our reports will be considered plagiarism if so much as a double space is wrong in our references.

Now that sounds really unreasonable.... we're only human and errors are to be expected.

If you can't work it out, then i'd suggest dropping it. Then trying it at a later time!! :D

i feel for you :( i've gone through this myself. is it something that you have to take? if not, i'd say drop it. if it's going to severly affect your other classes or your job, it's not worth it. if you have to take it, i just don't know what to tell you. i'm pretty sure talking to her won't make a difference. but it is possible that she's just trying to scare off people. i've come across many professors that try to weed out classes like this. the class maybe won't be that bad once it starts. i hope all turns out ok!
God Bless
