It's important to keep kids interested, ESPECIALLY in today's fast paced world.
We have great curriculum and I think teaching is exciting. It's about relationships with the kids, using multiple learning approaches to reach each learning style and getting outside your own comfort zone. It's being real about your own faith, sharing it with kids, making the Bible relevant by showing the impact it should have on daily lives. Its being developmentally appropriate and engaging the children...not "entertaining".

Still there's NOTHING wrong with being "entertaining".... the more your kids enjoy being in your class the MORE they're going to remember ABOUT the class.

Learning about the Lord is exciting! We do high energy games, music, puppets, etc...to teach the Word.
As far as being entertaining...if I am at a high school football game, jumping up and down like crazy...I better be doing the same and more for my Lord.
By playing games and such we are making "it stick" making it memorable. Crosswords and stuff are good too. Unfortuately not all kids can read and not all kids learn best through reading and writing.
I would rather worship with the kids on any given Sunday!

Putting clothespins in order of the books of the bible is a wonderful, ACTIVE game. It's not passive, nor boring, nor is it simple entertainment.

I like activities for children that are active and hands-on.

This is a good one, because they get up and move, and at the same time, they are learning, and cooperating with each other too.

Like mamafar, I'd rather worship with kids too:) They're far more worshipful! Some of the adults at my church are stiff, and unfriendly toward new people. God wants us to praise Him. God wants us to love others.

May I ask what curriculum you use? We will be reviewing options for the fall and any suggestions would be great!

I am not sure what is wrong with entertaining children when it is also a learning environment. Children, especially young ones are more open to learning when they are having fun. If you are putting them to sleep then they won't learn and they won't want to come. What is wrong with making church fun, making it a great place to go and a good experience to carry in your heart. Once the kids are a little older then make the work harder, but it doesn't have to be less fun.
