  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I don't know if you can really get a digital SLR for that low (even used)... but there still are some pretty cool cameras in that price range. I just picked up a Canon Powershot S2 IS for $498. I've always used SLRs, and this is a point & shoot camera, but I love it. Still love my D70... but the Canon is awesome as well.

certain point and shoots will take outstanding photos. comparable to SLRs. My D70 (its a Nikon) is a digital SLR. I was in the market for a point and shoot, since I want to have a camera that I can take with me everywhere, and an SLR is just too big. I really think the S2 IS is worth it. If you go to Amazon.com and do a search for "Canon S2 IS", when you go to that product you can actually view user's photos that they took with it. I am blown away by some of them!

Basically as long as they're the same lens and pixel quality they should be very similar in that respect. (Saying that there can be variations in some cameras that have the same number of pixels which are older and new ones). The main difference is that you have more control with an SLR, as you can use seperate flashes (some digital compacts let you do this, but not all), you can change the lenses, you have more functions available and so on. It all depends on what you want to do with your photography.
