I know everyone has seen or gotten in their email some signs that churches post outside. I saw a cool one yesterday:

Yeah, I think I saw a picture of a couple of them online somewhere.

I've always been bothered by "-God" signs. We had an event in my town and one sign said "Meet Me at Finley Stadium.-God". Really? God said that? These signs make you think this is a direct quote. Is God really saying these things? I think we need to be more careful in these matters.

ok, so that message is annoying. I've seen others like it. But when the "messages" are related to Christianity, I tend to like them.

Which reminds me of a story I remember a priest saying once during mass:

He was driving along, and he pulled up behind someone at a stop light. He couldn't help but notice the bumper sticker on the car in front of him, which said

"Honk if you love Jesus"

Well, he wasn't about to deny Jesus, so he honked (which if I remember the rest of the story correctly, got the driver ahead of him [i.e., the one with the bumper sticker] upset, because the driver thought the guy behind him was impatient, being rude, etc...)

Did God really say these words? Why do we ascribe quotes to God that He never said?

Well, you do have a good point. Especially since we're told not to add to the word of the Lord.

I never looked at it in that way before.

The quote about meeting at God's house sunday before the game could be justified as an indirect quote. A paraphrase. As for the rush-hour one, well, I guess it's a touchy subject. I can't see any harm being done, and I'm pretty sure that some good is being done by it.

I'm not justifying it myself personally, just giving an example of how it could be justified. I'm unsure what to think of it. I don't know how immoral it is. My moral judgements come from the word of God, and since I don't know how He feels about this, I don't know how I feel about it. It's odd.

There are a lot of things the church says today that aren't taken directly from the Word. But we don't say that they're adding to the word. This could easily turn into one of those threads like the "no musical instruments in church" type thing

I never have thought as those as anything more than advertisting for the church/God. The meaning behind most of them is biblical and if they make even one person accept the Lord then I can't see how it's a bad thing.

I like this one and it doesn't mention God. It is just a phrase that we like at our church. Actually two quotes.
