Where the heck did they come from? Scientists are finding skeletons of these so called neanderthals and I'm just wondering: Are these skeletons just not real or did Adam and Eve start out with different looking bodies than we have today??

Neanderthal skeletons and remains have been found from the Middle East to Spain. They had a cranial capacity 10% greater then our own and are probably representative of migration patterns immediately following the flood.

Neanderthals branched off of the same evolutionary line that modern humans come from, but they mated with their inferior cousins which became the Neanderthals that dominated Europe for 500,000 years. Some from the modern human line stooped to mate with some in the Neanderthal line.

Adam and Eve arrived on a preveously populated, evolved earth as evidenced by Cain's concern for those out in the world away from his A&E.

Neandertals were real human people who lived throughout the Middle East, Europe and Asia but not in Africa, Australia and the Americas. Starting about 75,000 years ago modern man began to migrate out of Africa and by 50,000 years ago had occupied most of the same area as the Neandertal people. We know that there was some gene mixing because DNA studies indicate that we modern humans share up to about 3% of our genes with them. No one knows why but the Neandertals became extinct about 30,000 years ago with the last of them in a cave system in Southern Spain.

The divergence between Neanderthals and humans is less the 1%, scientists that have compared the DNA concluded that if they were alive today modern humans could still interbreed with them.

This pretty much covers it.

Genesis 1, v28-30 does read as if humans other than Adam and Eve spread in addition to the Garden, and that can fit how Cain was able to leave and go to the "land of Nod" and there have a wife in Genesis 4. If there were already humans before or concurrently with the Garden, does that make the Garden less special or less weighty? No. The Garden would be the place of the first human spirit/soul joined to a human body. Outside the Garden, might other humans have included Neanderthals, well before the Garden? That seems likely.

(The leading theory I've seen of how/why the Neanderthals were overwhelmed by modern humans is because we are much more socially cooperative than they were -- we have built-in wiring for cooperation. So, in an equal numbered fight, stronger Neanderthals well armed and equally experienced, who would win one-on-one battles....would be slaughtered. Modern humans would have an overwhelming, decisive advantage, through cooperation. A good illustrative analogy -- the Romans vs the Germans in the beginning of the movie Gladiator.)

Could the place in genesis about the sons of god and daughters of men be about interbreeding with Neanderthals?

I don't think so. The Nephilim were supposed to be tall, but if I understand right Neanderthals were shorter than the contemporary man of that age.

That is correct. They were shorter and very powerfully built. They were also "short shinned" so a modern man could easily outrun them. It is also questionable as to whether or not they had the ability to vocalize as well as modern man. If not, that could well explain them being out competed.

Adam and Eve lived around 6,000 years ago in the Garden of Eden in the Tigris Euphrates river valley. They call that area ancient mesopotamia. They mark the beginning of civilization including law, cities, farming and herding animals.

The move out of Africa was marked with three artifacts: sowing needles, fishing hooks and fishing nets. This took place around 40 or 50 thousand years ago. This is when man moved from the African biodiverse ecosystem to the Fertile Crescent Ecosystem known as the Tigris Euphrates River Valley. Around 6,000 years ago at the time of Adam and Eve this is referred to as Ancient Mesopotamia. It is easy to go east and west. It is more difficult to migrate north or south because of the difference in temperature. Except for around 12,900 years ago when we had global warming and the climate changed quite a bit at that time.

Neanderthals were a closely related extinct* species or subspecies of human. We are Homo sapiens sapiens; there is debate as to whether neanderthals should be classified as Homo neanderthalensis (a distinct species) or Homo sapiens neanderthalensis (a sub-species). DNA studies have shown that most populations outside of Sub-Saharan Africa have at least some neanderthal genes, indicating that our ancestors interbred with neanderthals and so many of us have neanderthal ancestry--and so they, in a sense, live on in us.

The reason for this is that since our ancestors left Africa sometime a couple tens of thousands of years ago they encountered neanderthals who already had an established presence in Europe and Asia; and as genetic evidence indicates at least some of those encounters resulted in offspring--those offspring are many of us whose ancestors are those who left Africa in those ancient out of Africa migrations.

*Seeing as so many modern people have inherited neanderthal genes, neanderthals while extinct still have living DNA to pass on to succeeding generations in us.

Unlikely. The nephilim probably indicate "very ancient people", as they are described, "These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown."; a Greek analogue would be the "heroes" of legend and myth. This is so long ago that it is part of the ancient mythological past for Israel.

I have heard some people say that such a view is racist because it implies that those left behind in Africa remained physically primitive while those leaving Africa progressed beyond that primitive state via an intermixture with Neanderthals

Homo Sapiens Sapiens (modern man) evolved in east central Africa before some migrated out starting around 75,000 years ago. Those left behind were not then and are not now physically primitive --- in fact they provide some of the finest athletes in history. In other words, it does not imply anything racist at all.
