  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Thank you Assyrian. Thats seems like a pretty reasonable explanation in light of the of the verses you mentioned and the cultural context of the people. I guess they wouldnt really understand the idea of a star or galaxy or the distances between them back then for that matter either. But the general idea of God making it all was what i was getting at, even if i maybe incorrectly stretched it a bit for a more modern cosmology.

Short answer; No, I have not. But that was exactly my point. How can you (or someone else) make an absolute statement like 'the speed of light is constant' as in it's the same now as from the begining of its creation, unless you hold a claim to the same omniscience as God?
You are making an 'assumption' without any proof. And the only way you could prove this was to have been there from the beginning.

Um... we make that claim based on the very fabric of the universe. For the speed of light to not be constant, then the permeability and the permittivity of space would have to change, which would affect the world on a very fundamental/electrical level, which would change the very nature of atoms and molecules. Maybe it could change slightly without destroying matter, but any big change is going to have effects that are likely horrific.
