• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

A natural remedy you might want to try is organic Kava Kava root. It may not work for everybody, but a majority of people report good results:

Kava | Kava Kava | Kavalactone | Kava Capsules | Kava Root

If you don't feel you're getting any results with natural remedies and want to go the prescription med route, you may want to try Buspar (10 mg). Buspar isn't habit forming, and most people report no adverse reactions to it.

Talk to your doctor and see if Buspar is right for you.

Holy basil is another one worth looking into, sometimes called tulsi tea. Helpful for anxiety for many folks, not just a coffee substitute. Here's a little blurb on it:

Organic Tulsi Tea - The Healthiest Alternative for Coffee

Also any refined sugar (white sugar, white flour, corn syrup, etc) and even too much unrefined sugar can throw the body into fight or flight. Best to severely limit it. Stevia, mentioned on the above link is a non-sugar herbal sweetener found in health food store, where the tea can also be found. Holy basil can also be taken in capsules and tinctures. I like the tea. there's something about fixing one's self a cup of tea and sitting and drinking it that is very calming. For those of you not familiar with herbs, when the doc says adaptogen that mean it is the type of herb that you use everyday, I'd say 3 cups a day at least, and it sort of builds on itself to produce results. I think it also works quite quickly, but I'm not certain. I've got a stressful situation currently, and I think the tea helps. I think God put these chemicals in plants because He knew we'd need them in this fallen world.

Blessings, A

Hi! I take something called AdreCor which helps with Neurotransmitters and it has been helping me with depression/anx/panic. I usually just get my anxiety at night, and trying to work on fixing that, but the stuff has really helped me. There is also something called Kavinace, it's an alternative to Xanax, it made me too tired and I like the xanax better because I only pinch off crumbs to control my anxiety.

I hope this helps!!

Scullcap is a very good nervine for anxiety. I have used it before with great results. In fact, it is also recommended for those who are coming of of benzos or having withdrawls.

It is pretty bitter so if you use it as a tea or tincture be ready for this. You can also purchase it in capsule form.

Best bet is if you want to go the natural route consult with a local naturopathic professional or someone who is really familiar with the field of natural treatments. They can assess you and direct you to the correct herbal rememdies to try.
Before using alternatives always go to your regular doc or specialist to discuss it. Some alternatives also have bad side effects and caused death. I've done a lot of reading on this.
