  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Environmental deniers need to understand that the earth's climate is fragile, and the resources that got us into this industrial phase are starting to peak.

fracking1.png

Why was the price of oil going up? High demand, lower quality resources.

Why did it come back down again? 2008 GFC lower demand, and more resources from Saudi Arabia flooding the market to try and bankrupt North American fracking.

Why is fracking struggling? Because America's "new oil" is not conventional sweet crude, it's post-peak fracking. It's dirty oil, harder oil, not the abundant CHEAP sweet crude we're used to. Yes new technologies raise the technically recoverable amount. But even that will change!

Two thoughts

Can the OP say that in the title?

My first thought, the post was about a USA baby boom some months into 2020.

I just want to no how sweet crude compares to southern sweet tea. Which is sweeter?

...Just kiddin', @eclipsenow. ;)

If Southern Sweet Tea is as fit for purpose (quenching a hot dry throat) as light sweet crude is (easy refining to quench a thirsty oil appetite), then there might just be something in that metaphor.
images-1.jpg

But, at the risk of mixing metaphors further, the age of sweet oil is turning sour. We'll see it in our lifetimes, and even though I get conflicting sets of data from various sources, the peak could be sooner rather than later. However I'm firmly convinced that there is enough oil to last until EV's and alternative fuels like "Blue Crude" can take over. EV's have just started an exponential curve that will throw the oil industry into a permanent state of oversupply & glut by around 2025 onwards. And that oversupply will just get worse as the EV industry ramps up exponentially, and then the displacement of ordinary cars goes super-exponential as robot-taxi-cabs hit the market and one robot-taxi-cab displaces 10 to 30 ordinary vehicles. They might not be climbing the walls yet, but just think about the sheer convenience of the Minority Report automated pods that took you everywhere at super-fast speeds.

Just getting rid of the nasty cab drivers will be worth it.

Just for your information, so you can reckon better: the current fracking operation only takes out less than 20% of all the reserves. And we are working to get at least 30% more out of the rock.

You still can wait for a looooong while.

I just love the power of making assertions without evidence.
Witness my amazing power as I merely say:
"No they're not!"

No, just an assertion that didn't engage your head enough to do any work when making it, or provide any intellectual credibility. Hey, it's your assertion. I don't care if you let it flounder there on its own without any data or support.

It is my assertion. You do not like to see the data. Why should I give it to you?

How do you know that he would not like to see the data? He merely said that all you have done is give an assertion, not evidence. Do you have evidence to support your assertion?

I just know that he is not interested, so aren't you.
There is no need of evidence for that. I just know. This is called wisdom.

No, you don't know that. You say that though because you know that you have nothing and you want to keep the veneer of intellect you like to think you have intact from people proving you wrong.
Although you can easily prove me wrong by showing us the evidence for your claim.

I also know it is useless to prove that you are wrong. You won't be wrong anyway. Just like you won't accept Christian God under any evidence. You just won't.

This has nothing to do with religion, so don't try to derail the OP topic. You made a claim: "the current fracking operation only takes out less than 20% of all the reserves. And we are working to get at least 30% more out of the rock."
When challenged to provide evidence for your claim, you basically said: "no".

So either say that you have no evidence for your claim, or actually provide evidence for your claim. Stop trying to pretend that you're taking some superior high ground by refusing to answer, saying that's useless to change our views, when you've not even made an attempt to change our views.

So do you have evidence for your claim: yes or no?

The evidence is very easy to find if you read professional journals. I WILL NOT provide one for you. But if you do some searches, you would EASILY find that the current harvest rate of shale gas is normally less than 15% of the reserve.

You HAVE TO do this on yourself. Just like you have to experience the Christian God on yourself. Otherwise, you won't learn.
