.........the apologists for the Bush administration sure have been quiet thus far.

Could be because none of the Bush supporters ever suggested that? Could be not even Bush has suggested that?

Hey, I'm sure I remembered him saying it in a speech more than once that there were connections between Iraq and terrorism. I don't really have time to look up my citations, but saying that he never even implied the nonexistent connection to in fact exist is dissembling. ^^

LOL, he never said there was a connection between 9/11 and Iraq. ^_^ Let me repeat that, never. :)

Dick Cheney isn't a Bush supporter?

Alright, here's a challenge ~ please find one quote from Cheney where he says with utter clarity that there is a connection between 9/11 and Iraq. However, let me repeat what I said earlier (if not this thread, the same one in politics).... there's a difference between responsibly investigating possible links and actually flat-out saying there was a connection. That has never been said. Let's try not to let our political biasness overrule our integrity and, perhaps, our memory.

James - is this good enough for you?

No, its not the same.... I'm asking for proof from those who say the administration linked 9/11 with Iraq. Please, let's get that straight. :) Again, honesty please.

I actually thnk James has a point here. Bush and Cheney have been very crafty with the words they use. To my knowledge, they've never expressed an absolute link between Sept 11 and Iraq.

Again, honesty please.
Ahhh ... yes. "Honesty". I'm glad you mentioned that. Here is where it falls apart for Bush and Cheney. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that they've been very sneaky about how they draw lines between terrorists and Saddam. They've purposely left us with the impression that Saddam is directly linked to 9/11 without saying so in the strictest sense.

And they've never been quick to help their fellow Americans dispel such an urban legend.

Honesty, indeed.

White House Says it Has Evidence of Iraq-Al Qaeda Ties

W A S H I N G T O N, Sept. 26 — The United States has long charged Saddam Hussein with supporting terrorism, but the Bush administration is now alleging something new — what one official called a "current, symbiotic relationship" between Iraq and al Qaeda.

President Bush appeared in the Rose Garden today with members of Congress who support him on Iraq and accused Iraqi President Saddam Hussein of essentially the same crime he charged the Taliban with: harboring al Qaeda terrorists.
"The regime has long-standing and continuing ties to terrorist organizations. And there are al Qaeda terrorists inside Iraq," he said.

Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said "Iraq and al Qaeda have discussed safe haven opportunities in Iraq, reciprocal nonaggression discussions."

And, he added, al Qaeda is looking for specific assistance from Baghdad.

"We have what we consider to be credible evidence that al Qaeda leaders have sought contacts in Iraq who could help them acquire weapons of mass destruction capabilities," Rumsfeld said.

Ah, I knew there was a catch in there someplace. ;) Well, I won't get entangled in that, but I will say this.... all the administration had to do was say we were going into Iraq to put an end to Saddam's fratricide, putting an ended to Saddam's mass graves where hundreds of thousands of his own borthers and sisters were put to death.

Also , I may be wrong......but wasn't this the reason to go into Iraq so quickly and fight, due to fight the terrorists....and the evidence of Iraq and Al Qaeda ties, and weapons of mass destruction?

I believe WMD's was the sole reasoning given, but to be honest, its been so long since I heard it, and its since been obfuscated in the midst of partisan feuding.

Todays news......ummmmm  I feel Twisting of words here...

WASHINGTON - President Bush (news - web sites) on Thursday disputed the Sept. 11 commission's finding that there was no "collaborative relationship" between Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) and the al-Qaida terrorist network responsible for the attacks.

"There was a relationship between Iraq (news - web sites) and al-Qaida," Bush insisted following a meeting with his Cabinet at the White House.

"This administration never said that the 9-11 attacks were orchestrated between Saddam and al-Qaida," he said.

"We did say there were numerous contacts between Saddam Hussein and al-Qaida, for example, Iraqi intelligence agents met with (Osama) bin Laden, the head of al-Qaida in the Sudan."
