  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I am looking for a translation of the bible that is literal and geared toward an American English speaker. So I've settled on the ESV or NASB, which should I go with?
I have and read both. For study, the NASB is better. For reading, the ESV might be considered easier to read. Have you considered the Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)? I apologize if this question has been asked already. I haven't read all the posts in this thread topic.

I know a brother who will use only the Holman Christian Standard Bible since he discovered it.

Another brother reads only the New Century Bible since he discover it. That one can be found at:
New Century Version Bible - NCV - Online Study Tools

I prefer the New Living Translation for easy reading.

The most helpful Bible Study site I have found is:
Biblos.com: Search, Read, Study the Bible in Many Languages

I have the apologetics study Bible which is HSCB and I love it too. I grew up on KJV, and I love that style of language and reminiscantly read it at times. For quick reference and ease of understanding I usually quote from the NIV (plus it's the first usually to pop up in my list of comparitive scriptures). For my daily devotions (when I'm near a computer) I use the Bible.cc which compares lots of version of each scripture and lists them side by side or biblegateway.com when reading entire sections of scripture.
