  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Oo, I've gotten to see it twice so far (this past Tuesday, and again today), and I loved it both times! It was fun seeing all the 'booky' details they slipped in, such as the dead blue-bottle in the wardrobe room, and I thought the overall acting was all fantastic. The CGI for the most part was very impressive, though there was the occasional scene where it didn't quite work for some reason. But overall, I loved it!

I thought Aslan was reasonably well done, and I really did like Liam Neeson as the voice. I think any voicing problems were less because of him and more because the script just didn't give him a lot of powerful lines. The White Witch had plenty of great parts, though, and wasn't Tumnus just perfect at getting that double-agenda thing down when he met Lucy? And Lucy and Edmund were among the best actors I thought! Skandar had everything down beautifully that the part of Edmund needed, and Georgie as Lucy was just amazing.

I thought it was overall faithful to the book. Yes, there were parts where they could have been closer while still making a good movie, and a few minor character changes here and there, but overall, Adamson really did a good job adapting the book to the screen.

The Christian themes are also there just as much as they were in the book. This wasn't so much because Adamson was trying to keep those themes, but rather just because he wanted to stay faithful to the book. His view on Christian themes and such was that he wanted the readers who'd seen the themes in the book to also see them in the movie, and the readers who hadn't noticed them in the book to still be able to miss them in the movie; and that really is an important key to properly adapting a book.

One part that was funny about that whole process, though, was Aslan's line toward the end 'It is finished,' spoken just after killing the White Witch. That has some pretty obvious Christian connotations, but in an interview, Adamson said that he hadn't intended that meaning in that line at all. He'd meant it as something from Aslan to show that He was sad about the war and having to kill the White Witch and all that, which you can see in the way the scene is portrayed. But of course, a lot of viewers took it in an entirely different light since it matched so perfectly what Jesus Christ said from the cross.

I think it was so awesome, and whether or not the director wanted the Christian themes in the movie, never the less, they are there, and hopefully they will plant seeds in many hearts who might not hear the Gospel message in other ways. :)

I read the Narnia series as a 12-yr-old kid, and it brought tears to my eyes to actually see those stories brought to life on screen 20 years later.

About the characters, though, I really wanted to see them (especially Peter) beef up as time went on. I wanted some biceps on Peter, and some Xena warrior princess in Susan. And that last scene with the lamppost, I wish their demeanor was more stately than they had it, which was basically 4 kids in grown-up bodies. I realize it's a kids' book, but I remember how I felt as a kid when I read it, and I would be more inclined to fantasize about someone who's strong and powerful in another world.

The director wanted to keep the spirit of the book in the film hence the Christian themes stayed intact. Also the executive producer was C.S. Lewis's step son who is a pastor himself and made sure the film was a faithful adaption to the book.

I have seen the movie and think it's the best film of the year. Aslan was amazing...a full CGI lion that looked amazingly real. That in itself deserves a special effects nomination come oscar time.

Like a heard a guy say on "Focus on the Family", sometimes when you take a look into the fantasy world, and put the aspects of faith in there, they lose their Sunday school-every day mundaneness that we get used to, and it reopens our hearts to the truth of the Gospel and makes it become new to us all over again. (Hope that made sense)

I'm a CS Lewis fan (used to go to his favorite Pub all the time! ;) But just a word to the wise, don't listen to groups like "Focus on the Family." Their stances on homosexuality is pure bigotry, plain and simple, and not what being a christian is all about. :groupray:

What does that have anything to do with this movie?
Focus on the Family is an awesome ministry, and I respectfully disagree with you on the matter of their stance on homosexuality. They have a soley biblical view on the matter, which is that it is sin, but we must love the sinner. (After saying this, I also say that this matter does not need to be in this thread, but must be taken elsewhere!)

Indeed. The scene at the end was a little different compared to the book. In the book they were talking perhaps a bit TOO stately for a casual hunt through the woods. I think a balance between the two types of speaking would've been best in the movie.

It doesn't. However, I was responding to a comment made earlier in this thread about the movie that had to do with focus on the family.

If this conversation need be taken elsewhere, than perhaps we can do so. I must in turn, however, respectfully disagree with your above comment. In his 11 point argument against same-sex marriage, Dobson does not take a solely biblical view on the matter, unless I missed the portions in the bible on social security and healthcare. This weighing in on secular matters is a blatant attempt to blur the separation between church and state with arguments that are not longer entirely moral, but bigoted, plain and simple. I'd be happy to discuss this on another thread with you further if you'd like.

The film was very good...way better than the first one(s). I remember seeing them when I was a kid, over and over... I'm so glad that they remade the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. I loved the Witch, really impressive and terrifying, but neurotic.

I saw it tonight! Great movie! I was so impressed with how good of actors and actresses the children were, especially Lucy! Anyways I very much enjoyed this movie. I had planned to read the book again before I saw the movie, but it was a surprise I saw it tonight so I must read them again as soon as possible. Lucy was so cute! It was a beautiful film. the white witch was perfectly cast-SCARY! They did a good job of making sure the children really did look related.
