  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I don't usually watch talk shows, but I watch the Tyra show when she does one of her race specials... This one was about names and people's assumptions based on names.

So, now I just wonder what people think of when they hear my son's name. I'm just wondering.

not sure what you mean...i guess the name Charles Allastair sounds kinda affluent to me. Reminds me of someone who lives in a mansion.

It sounds very British to me. I would picture a Charles Alastair to be very rich and live in the country.

Me too.

How about my kids names:

Emily Grace April

Daniel James Patrick
I see Emily Grace April as being very "girly" very popular growing up with a lot of friends. A tad on the quiet side though.

Daniel James Patrick,
If he goes by Daniel, very poetic and smart, also on the quiet side.
If he goes by "Dan" more fun loving, very nice, someone who likes to joke around, and who people like to be around.

Yes my Emily is rather girly, but not quiet.

Daniel goes by both Dan and Daniel depending on who he is talking to. (or how lazy he is at school. sometimes he will write Dan on his school work) Yes I think he is poetic and reasonably smart (I'm allowed to say that I'm his mum.)

Hey have any of you read Freakanomics? There's a realy interesting chapter about names, and how people are seen based on their names.
(haha I forgot about this thread)

I've never read it, but I think Tyra was talking about that book in the special I watched.
