  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm curious if any of you have a 'hero' in the Messianic movement. Is there a person who you have a great deal of respect for? Have they shared infinitely deep insights that spurred you to grow? Is their character beyond reproach?

I may ask about Jewish heros later, but I'm curious who in the Messianic movement has inspired you?

MHO - as much as we'd like it to be otherwise, as much as we struggle for it to be true of ourselves - to paraphrase as scripture - there is none whose character is beyond reproach, no not one...... but there are likely to be those whose humble struggle to BE beyond reproach is motivating and humbling....

My husband is a truly human man - yet I would have to say, of all living men, he is my hero..........

I have heard wonderful things about your DH, but those were via private discussions. I'm curious if you wouldn't mind sharing with us some of the qualities you feel make him your 'hero' ;)

Of course it would be Yeshua and or YHWH. Afterwards Yochanan and if Paul is (and im still unsure) a true speaker of the will of God, then he is absolutely up there. As for anyone I actually know, I will have to say none as I cant really identify any.

Shalom Bucaneer,

I understand your sentiment, but this will always be the obvious answer most any of us would give ;)

I was really asking more along the lines of modern day people who have inspired you... specifically those who are in the Messianic movement.

shalom,
yafet

p.s. I'm not seeking after demig-ds, or sing 'praises to men'... but obviously Sha'ul spoke of men and women in high regard who he thought were inspirational to their communities, and I am curious who in this modern day messianic revival of sorts has done this.

See, MODesty!(pun intented) a good trait for a hero. Although I will admit, your more of a mentor than a hero! There are just so few Titus 2 women out there! Honestly you are the only one I know. To pick a good women to be a mentor, you are the only one that comes to mind

Hero really does feel kinda weird to use, so would role model. Yeshua is really the only one worthly of these titles. Maybe we should use the word mentor or example. Like my husband is a great example I believe for all men. He is the one who brought me to Yeshua. He looked past my wild behavor and saw that I needed G-d. Even made me his wife. He's not perfect (no man is) but he sure trys he's hardest to be.:)

Erin,

First, I want to thank you for a wonderful post. You make me want to look up Mr. Kalisher and his congregation.

Anywho..

Second, I thought I'd mention why I started this post. It seems that so many from other spiritual walks have these great 'hall of faith' people to look up to. Christians have Billy Grahm, Catholics have John Paul II, the Jews have Jacob Neusner, etc. It seems like we spend all of our time sifting through the 'muck' of messianic judaism, that we often overlook our shiny stones ;)

Of course, this is just a tiny reason why I started the thread... I also wanted to see where you each individually looked to as 'the bomb' :D
It kinda sheds insight into what kinds of things you look to aspire to yourself as an individual.

As most of you know, I tend to do more of the 'dry' types of discussions, so I thought I'd finally let loose and toss out something a tad more on the emotional side and let go of the 'intellectual' for a moment.

have fun, and thanks for the responses so far.

Oh hes this guy who keeps destroying my ego in chess, hes EEEEEEvil I tells you.

I guess I dont really have a hero in the Messianic movement, at a time I might have said Avi ben Mordechai as alot of what he said was very influential in my realisation that there was more to Yeshua and the Ketuvarim Netzarim than what comes from "christianity in a kippa". Some day when he returns to being rabbinic Il reconsider ;)

Shalom and G-d bless
