  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This is an interesting read for those that enjoy these type of mysteries.

Pharaoh also gave Joseph an Egyptian wife and an Egyptian name, the first element of which is “sef.” Manetho, an Egyptian historian who wrote the history of his country to Ptolemy I during the third century BC, mentions that Amenhotep III had a minister called Sef. It seems that the name “Jo-sef” or “Yo-sef” in Hebrew and “Yu-sef” in Arabic, was composed of two elements: one Hebrew, “Yu,” which is short for Yahweh, and the other Egyptian, “sef.”

The 18th dynasty is way too late in overall dynastic ancient Egyptian BC history for Joseph who was early in overall Biblical history (13th generation after the flood).

A more likely match for the name Joseph/Yahuwseph is Imhotep (3rd dynasty) which may be an Egyptian rendering of Joseph. (The -m- or -em- has possible reasons in Egyptian.)

Imhotep / Ii-em-hotep / Iemhetep / Iimhtp / Iu-em-hept / *Ja-im-hatap / Jjmhtp / Immutef / Imouth(es).

Any dynastic placement of Joseph has to many all or as many as possible of the many details in the story of Joseph. The only dynasty of all the 33 dynasties that best matches all the details is the 3rd-4th dynasties, all other dynasties don't match all the details as much/well.

I don't think that the Zaph- of Zaphenath-paneah is necessarily connected with the -seph of Joseph.
