Not at all, especially in context here.
The previous description was "savage beating" which looks like
not at all what was meant.
This (apparently) was not the standard, and not the verse quoted. They were allowed to beat their slaves pretty savagely.
If you read in context in the TORAH,Yes it is! You, sir, have more twists than an octopus trying to tie it's shoes.
If you read in context in the TORAH,
"savage beating" was not the norm, and you will or may find that it was not permitted.
Being struck as in once is much different than savage beatings.
So ? (if that is so)And struck can be used in both the plural or the singular.
Read your Bible it's all there.Who was allowed to ?
So ? (if that is so)
Duh --- (Light goes on to read the previous verses/ check context , etc)
See the previous verse : (any two people, not just owner/slave) :
18 “If two people fight, and one hits the other with a stone or with his fist, and the injured party doesn’t die but is confined to his bed; 19 then, if he recovers enough to be able to walk around outside, even if with a cane, the attacker will be free of liability, except to compensate him for his loss of time and take responsibility for his care until his recovery is complete.
? so ? Read the context if you want to come closer to the meaning. And Exodus 20:20-21 is about slaves, the topic of which we are talking about in this metadebate.
If you don't know basic English, that's not my fault.
? so ? Read the context if you want to come closer to the meaning.
Read TORAH if you want to know how slaves were treated in Israel.
When you pull one or two verses out of context and purposefully continue to misconstrue TORAH and Israel, it benefits no one.
A false statement was made,No, you're just being purposefully obtuse about the whole thing.
A false statement was made,
and I simply opened the door so anyone who wants to can find the truth about it.
You don't have to read TORAH if you don't want to.
If you had bothered to read the thread/ previous posts,What false statement? The Torah and the Old Testament clearly says in Exodus 21:20-21 that if a slaveowner beat a slave but did not kill them, then the slaveowner would not be punished. Case closed.
If you don't know basic English, that's not my fault.
Read your Bible it's all there.
Exodus 21
It must be a Christian thing because they all do it.No, you're just being purposefully obtuse about the whole thing.
It must be a Christian thing because they all do it.
Who would worship a God that would condone owning people as slaves?(ii) 20 “If a person beats his male or female slave with a stick so severely that he dies, he is to be punished; 21 except that if the slave lives for a day or two, he is not to be punished, since the slave is his property.
