My post is directed at what I've seen as a general hostility toward people who would resort to surgery in order improve one thing or another about their appearance. They're safe targets that every "good" Christian can feel morally superior over. Warms the heart, doesn't it? The problem is, people who feel so bad about something that they would resort to plastic surgery are obviously suffering. I think telling them that they're criticizing the God they love is like kicking a man while he's down (or like kicking a woman while she's down). Sorry, but that's my opinion.

And your entitled to that opinion, but that doesnt mean I have to agree with it, I fail to see how I was kicking anyone for expressing my thoughts, they brought up the subject so I gave my take, just because I don't agree it doesn't mean I feel superior to anyone, reread my post, I clearly said it's up to them, and that I am not judging anyone. Why do you have to assume people are trying to pick on others? Is nobody allowed to have a differing opinion?

And I have not seen anyone start a flame war, all I've seen is some people discussing a topic, closest I've seen is Curious claiming we are being abusive, though I wouldnt call that flaming at this point, I think some people just need to be a little more understanding that others will not always agree with them.

Well you are trying to say we are kicking people while their down, so I'm not sure how many ways you can take that... Seems you might be misunderstanding our posts...I'm not even trying to convince Mina not to follow through if she gets the chance, just commenting on the topic of Plastic Surgery from my own feelings and opinions...

It's entirely possible that I misunderstood your posts. If so, then I'm sorry for drawing the wrong conclusions. I have nothing against you. My previous replies were an attempt to express my views about an issue... not to be interpreted as a personal attack.

That said, if you want to defend your position, instead of attacking me for a percieved slight, then I'm all ears (or eyes). I was expecting more of a debate than anything else. If telling a fellow believer who is in agony that their agony is hurting God is not like kicking someone while they're down, then what is it? I may be totally wrong! Feel free to point out what I'm missing.

I do not think you or Sweetlambofgod are bad people. I just think you may have inadvertently picked up a hurtful attitude about a particular issue. Goodness knows that has happened to me.

I've been reading some of the threads around here lately and they have been very, shall we say, enlightning. I have a question of my own I would like to ask.

What about us gals who aren't attractive but have alot of the qualities that everyone seems to be looking for? We stand here in the wings and think "gee guys are looking for the things we have, a sense of humor, a loving heart, a christian who really loves the Lord, virginity etc" but no one wants us. We seem to be the ones who are discriminated against just because we don't fit the norm. We are too skinny, too fat, too old, to young, but never enough. Just wanting your insight.

What people say with words that they "want" will not necessarily coincide with what they respond to.

well not everyone that gets plastic surgery is saying that to God- as was pointed out. The same idea could be applied to weight loss, hair coloration, mole removal, the wearing of make-up and a myriad of other improvements to appearance. I really don't think that God cares really if someone gets plastic surgery or not. Like anything else, I think He is more concered with the motives behind it more than the actual changing of appearance itself.

I assure you that if God did not want them to exist, there would be no plastic surgeons.


I say go for all the changes that you can. Work at the changes you want to see in yourself, both inside and out. Our God is great because He gives us this ability to change. I am working more internally in my changes, but there are some external things I do want to work on.

Also to sweetlambofGod, I think that we should be careful not to confuse a personal conviction with a universal directive from God. For example I belong to a particular denomination based on my experience and understanding of God's will and leading. I do not think my choice is right for everybody and in fact I am the only member of my family to belong to this denomination. I do not condemn or disagree with my family because of where and how they worship God.

As far as your claim that what we said was an attack, we never said they are hurting God, we said it's like telling Him that He messed up, God made us how we are, and I for one believe He has a plan for all of us. He made us who we are appearances and everything, people shouldn't have to suffer for something as trivial as how they look. Jesus did not discriminate against people for looks, it was not an important issue and should not be a major issue in anyones growth as a Christian InMyOpinion.

I can never understand why some people think that if your teeth are crooked or a dull colour it's not vanity to get them capped, bleached or fixed, but if your nose is too big or your ears stick out, it is vanity to get them fixed.

What's wrong with fixing anything about yourself that doesn't look good if there's a way to do it? We only live once. That's like saying God likes us to be ugly or flawed. That we should thank him for our elephant ears, skin blemishs, big noses and rabbit teeth.

Will we have them for eternity? No? Then why not fix them now.

1. I don't feel flamed, and I don't think i've been rude to anyone on this thread (please tell me if you think i have been and I will delete my posts). I didn't laugh at anyone's views or posts.

2. Please don't talk about me like I'm not here. You may address me however and I'll be more than happy to respond.

3. I think in the big scheme of things God has more to worry about than if someone gets plastic surgery or not to fix a bump in their nose. I don't feel like He'd be offended, so I would have it done. If you don't believe that then you don't have to get surgery. To me, it's not about critizing God, AT ALL. Like I said before not many people will understand that. This is very much a non salvation issue. I'm not mad at anyone here. I just think this is not a one size fits all issue.

4. I am sad that kelco will no longer be on CF. I really liked reading her posts.

I swore to myself that I'd never log in again and that the last post that I did in here was my last post on any message board. But I came by tonight to tie up some lose ends. And I hope that by tying this one up I can leave here with a clear conciousense. I didn't start this thread for others to start kicking anyone else around. I am fair game because I opened this thread. Kick me all you want but please don't kick anyone else around for what they believe. I think that the best thing that could happen here is that we all go to our corners. There have been some people here who have the same question I did and we have had it answered. Getting into a flame war and hurting other people was not my intention now or at any other time. It's time to give it up and forget that this thread was ever posted. I don't want anyone else hurt here. Thank you.

If you're still reading this thread, I just wanted to say that I'll miss you if you don't come back. You have always brought me cheer, even when I've been fed up with some of the less pleasant aspects of CF life.

I have been thinking to myself that it's strange how your thread became a debate over plastic surgery. Back to the original point, though -- yeah, there are a lot of us out there (myself included) who sometimes feel a little down because we have lots of great things to offer, but in the wrong packaging, so to speak. It can be daunting, this knowing "what might be" if only the reflection in the mirror were different. I can't change what someone is or isn't attracted to, so I don't blame anybody -- it's just frustrating.

And yet I still live in hope. Call me a naive optimist if you will, but there is still a part of me that believes a man might someday see my inner beauty. Stranger things have been known to happen.

In any case, please do not be discouraged by the way this thread went off-track -- threads have a tendency to do that sometimes. You know that I have taken breaks from CF when I needed to, and I understand if that's the case with you -- but I hope we haven't heard the last from you.

Mina I don't think you've been rude at all, and I wasn't trying to act like you weren't here, I was talking about the subject itself not trying to direct it solely at you, my views on it are for anyone not just you so I didn't think I should direct my posts specifically towards one person even if you were the one that brought up the subject.

Wasn't your fault. If anyone should be blamed, it would be those who practically attacked your opinion. And I don't care what they say, if a debate ensued after their posts, then their posts were more than just passive opinions.

Voicing a differing opinion and backing it up with your thoughts is not an attack. I never tried debating I just defended my views. So yeah, I would appreciate it if we can stop accusing people of things falsely. Nobody attacked anyone, why can't people just accept that others will disagree and leave it at that? Everything has to be an attack if it differs from what was first stated. Sometimes people here seem to think that nobody is allowed to defend themselves....It's getting ridiculous....

And Mina I don't think any one person is to blame for derailing the thread. I don't think any one person, you included, should take all the blame.
