  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

my thought is this. the more I've become accepting to living in a developed surrounding (my neighborhood, my town, my city, my state, my nation, etc..) the more i want things done my way. When someone 'new' comes into my space who has different ideas and philosophies on how to live within the community I've lived in for longer, I might have a disagreement on his/her new ideas. If a new Christian comes into 'my' area with his or her own ideas which are conflicting with what "i know," dissension might occur. i've seen this true in Churches also. When a new christian comes in with new thoughts that are a little 'off' from weekly and accepted teachings, they are taught the proper way of understanding the Holy Bible. If an Eastern Orthodox Christian comes into a 'Calvary' church, there might not be such a warm welcome to the Eastern Orthodox and visa versa. If a Lutheran comes into an Anabaptist Church, the same might apply. If a Pentecostal comes into a "word of Life" church, the same might apply. The more i am accustomed to how things around me work, the less willing I am to accept other ideas if those ideas are not being implemented into my life surrounding, hence almost a waste of time to bother with the new ideas.

Dear rodriguez, We are all different, here is what I like best. In Matthew 22: 35-40: Jesus tells us: " The first and great Commandment is: Love God with all thy heart, with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. The second is like it:
love thy neighbour as thyself." In verse 40 we are told: " the first and great Commandment is: Love God with all thy heart, with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. The second is like it: love thy neighbour as thyself." God is Love, and God wants loving sons and daughters. In 1) Corinthians 13: 13: we read: and now abides Faith, Hope, Love; but the greatest of these is LOVE. God is Love, and wants our love freely given and no conditions made. That is simple and straightforward. God wants our love in all we say, or do. It might be a bit unusual for us, but God wants it from us.
In Matthew 7: 7-10: we are told," ask and you shall receive," then we ask God for Love and Joy, thank God and share it all with our neighbour. (neighbour is all we know and all we meet, friends and not friends) God will see our loving efforts, and God will bless us. We keep asking for Love and Joy, and share it all with our neighbour.
The Bible tells us to " Repent and be Born Again," we give up our selfish wishes and wants, and start loving, caring and always being friendly. The Holy Spirit will help and guide us, and Jesus our Saviour will lead us all the way:
JESUS IS THE WAY. We might stumble and forget at times, but then we ask God to forgive us, and carry on loving
and caring. Gradually we will change into the men and women which God wants us to be. God will be pleased with us and give us His Blessings. I say this with love, rodriguez. Greetings from Emmy, your sister in Christ.

Thanx for the thread.
I used to drive myself crazy looking at all of the facets of Christianity.
At some point I realized that each and every thought and doctrinal idea can be both proven and utterly disproven by the same bible. It gets really bad when one forms all of their doctrinal ideas on a denomination or a teacher. Once again...its all true and false at the same time.

What you are dealing with is what is commonly called the "veil".
In the real world it is this imaginary filter in front of our eyes, ears and minds. Another analogy is that its like looking at a page of text (which explains the meaning of life and all the details) through one facet of a diamond. In the end, all you get is jumbled up portions of the text like a jigsaw puzzle.

And guess what..??? It was meant to be there....duh. That's the way the universe was designed.
You can search a topic until pigs lay eggs but you will never figure it out. You see, this is the way that our God works. Faith is the point. Not knowing the truth, yet trusting in Him is what catches His attention.
And beyond that, I am beginning to believe that doctrine maybe isn't all that important. Perhaps the true thing we are to pursue is the very nature of out saviour...

....yes, I do believe that is the whole point and meaning of life

This is the great stumblingstone of Christianity: No one really wants to be a servant, especially when you realize that you must serve everyone, as Jesus did.

See my post #6. Seems to me like dave is getting entangled in webs of concepts. Forgetting pure being the present moment. So I said picture a nice scene (initially, post #6) and then contrast this with a "man on a cross". Just trying to slow down the concepts, in part because I personally dont have the focus of attention to deal with the density of daves posts, admittedly.

Lol that's probably what Jesus said to the beggars, right?

"I keep my change in my other robe."

I think he would have said, "No, but I'll buy lunch." ;)
