  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I grew up in a house where my parents went to church ocassionally but when we did we went to the United Methodist church. I mostly went to church while visiting my grandmother.

I moved to Washington state and became friends with Kim and her family has a strong faith in God. I'd spend the night and we'd go to church on Sunday (Christian Reformed Church). I graduated from high school and continued going to the same church as my best friend. I enjoyed the fellowship.

My great aunt was very sick and I hated hearing about her suffering. One Sunday morning I remember getting a phone call that she wasn't doing well and headed off to church. I prayed that God would take care of my Aunt and not let her suffer anymore and began crying. I found out after the service that she passed on while I was at church. This is a huge sign that the Lord hears our prayers.

I continued going to church, purchased a bible and started talked to the pastor about where I should start my walk with Jesus. He suggested the book of Acts. After a few months I met with the pastor and told him I was ready to give my "Profession to Faith." I stood in front of the church congregation and the pastor and professed to knowing the Lord as my savior. That was when I was 19 years old.
